[Lenovo Canada] Yoga 730 15.6" Platinum - i7-8550U, GTX 1050 4GB, 8GB RAM, 256GB 970 EVO ($1147 after rebate)

*Note: this price has now gone up from it's pre-Black Friday sale. I have updated this post with the latest prices as of 2019-11-12.

The Lenovo Yoga 730 15" Platinum (model 730-15IKB, part# 81CU000TUS), regularly $1,729.99, is on sale at Lenovo's small business site for $1,219.99 minus Rakuten's 6% ebate, making it $1,146.79 plus tax or 33.7% / $583 off ($1,367.29 charged to credit card - $73.20 ebate = $1,294.09 all in and delivered). Rakuten was running a 9% ebate previously and Lenvovo SMB Pro had this model listed at $1,024.99 so it has increased in price since its pre-Black Friday sale a few weeks ago.

While not as good a sale now as it was earlier, this is still a good price for one of the highest spec'd gaming, media creation and consumption laptop convertibles on the market. This thing is user upgradable as well making it wonderfully unique for its market segment.

Here are the specs:

Yoga 730 15 Platinum (model 730-15IKB, part #81CU000TUS)
- All aluminum brushed metal chasis in Platinum
- 8th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-8550U Processor (4 core, 8 thread, 1.80GHz up to 4.0GHz with Turbo Boost, 8MB Cache, 15W)

- 256GB SSD PCIe NVMe (Samsung 970 EVO OEM drive, user replaceable)
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with 4GB dedicated GDDR5 & automatic Optimus switching
- Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics (battery saving when the GTX 1050 is not required and inactive)
- 1 x Thunderbolt 3 USB-C (2xPCIe lanes supporting external GPUs or up to dual 4k60 external displays, etc), 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1, 1 x full sized HDMI, 1 x 3.5mm combined audio jack
- 3 cell Li-Polymer 51.5Wh with Rapid Charging (6-8 hrs standard use, less when gaming - 15min charge for 2hrs of use)
- Fingerprint Reader
- Lenovo Active Pen 1 with 2048 levels pressure or Lenovo Active Pen 2 with 4096 levels pressure and bluetooth available separately

You'll want to order this laptop through Rakuten's Lenovo SMB Pro site here:
https://www.rakuten.ca/lenovo-smb-pro

After clicking the "Shop Now" link at the above address and logging in with your Lenovo small business SMB Pro account, simply click the top of page search icon and search for "Yoga 730". In the results you find the link to the Yoga 730 builds you can purchase from. This particular build part number is 81CU000TUS. There are different instructions for purchasing this via the Rakuten app on Android and Apple that I'll detail as well if asked.

The direct Lenovo page for this machine is located here, but don't use this link to order if you want Rakuten's 6% cashback:

This Yoga has a 360 degree rotating screen making it a tablet with 10 point multi-touch and supports the Lenovo Active Pens from Wacom with up to 4096 levels of pressure for art and illustration purposes or navigation and note taking. This 15.6" laptop makes an excellent art and media drawing, editing and viewing tablet but is a gaming and full powered productivity laptop as well.

Here are some Lenovo 730 i7-1050 game framerate numbers for a wide variety of games and settings thanks to this site (click to zoom, twice):

For a rough comparison, here is a review of the last gen Lenovo 720 with near the same specs. It gives a good overview of basic design and function of the 730 we're interested in here (this thread's 730 config has an 8th gen 15W i7-8550U instead of the reviewed 45W i7 for better battery life, 4GB GDDR5 instead of reviewed 2GB on the 1050, 54Wh battery instead of 72Wh that still gives 6-8 hours of runtime thanks to newer components, added Microsoft precision trackpad instead of Wacom trackpad, an added HDMI port and a refined, more angular all aluminum case design):

To sign up for "smbpro-ca" do we need to have a business? Or there's a way around it?
Thanks.

They don't check or verify, so yours could be Teodore Ltd. or what have you.

It's 60% more expensive for this OP laptop. Good for higher end users, but I'm happy with my Flex 14.

Also, I prefer the 14" screen size to the 15.6".

Flex 14: $620.xx
Yoga 15: $988.xx

Easy choice in my price range.

Just to clarify - you have to have a Rakuten account to take advantage of this deal? I'm assuming that means there will be a forced integration where Rakuten can keep tabs on the user (like Google with the Chromebook)

In respect to OP, there's a decent chunk of RFDers who would prefer the larger Yoga with the dedicated GPU.

To each their own.

Not directly from them, according to what they posted on the sale page. From 3rd party retailers? No way to know. Lenovo has a free-shipping 30 day return policy so you could start the return process after Black Friday if you find better deals.

Oh of course... we all have different needs for different uses. I love the specs, features and price of the 2 Flex 14's I ordered as well for my daughters.

You have to have a Rokuten account to get the 10% cash back from Rokuten, but not the deal directly from Lenovo. As for forced integration: no, this isn't a browser plugin (although they have that if one wanted - I wouldn't recommend it)... once you leave the Rokuten site after your transaction there is no more tracking outside of their cookies which you can clear... just like every other site.

This was a painful process (in addition to setting up 2 accounts) only to find out it's sold out.

It's not sold out here... I just checked to verify.

You must be looking at the lower end model: the i5-8250U unit, part #81CU000VCF (was running for $1,275.79, a worse deal) is the only one sold out.

This part #81CU000TUS with the i7-8550U and 8GB RAM is still available for $1,097.99 as listed (before Rakuten rebate).

NEWLEGEND22 didn't apply to the part #81CU000TUS listed here as far as I tried a few days ago. You could be right and I couldn't access it correctly, of course. What was its sale price with that code?
