You get what you pay for. I would not cheap out on a power bar.

But if that is your budget, then go to a Dollar store.

I havent had problems with cheap power bars. As long as it feels like its decent quality you should be fine.

Anyway. 4 outlet power bars are rare. Most dollar stores have 5 or 6 outlet for $6-$8

It depends on the joule rating and how much load you put on them. If you are getting one just for the surge supressor. Better hope that cheap dollar store brand will pop the fuse when you get a surge.

I purchased a Belkin 4 plug power bar a few years back for $20 and I consider that a cheap (quality) power bar.

Good ones are going to cost you at least $30 - $40 today. I would invest the money.

If you want, I will sell you my Belkin one for $5. But you will have to come and pick it up.

You can check Superstore, I saw some going though my till last week for $3.24. Clearance stuff goes fast though.

I bought a Dynex one from Future Shop a couple of weeks ago, -$9.99- not on sale or anything but I needed it as I was buying some fish from Petland next door and needed more outlets to run the filter, lights and heater. If it goes on sale in the next couple of weeks, I'll just bring in my receipt and get the difference refunded.

Last year around this time Future Shop had a 6 outlet Belkin for $1.99.

Didn't realize that. Why would anyone want to get a power bar with no protection? Didn't realize they made power bars without surge protection

In that case any cheap unit will do. Just don't overload the circuit.

For those devices, I am use to seeing those 6 outlet units that go over your 2 existing receptacles. I usually find them in [rfdlink=/forums/autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=24]Canadian Tire[/rfdlink], made by Noma.

Yeah, those things basically split each outlet into 3 other outlets. No surge protection what so ever.

I didn't know that either...

And I've never seen one of those wall units with an on/off switch. They may exist, I've just never seen them.

CDN tire has a surge protector for $2.99... (instore only)

$2.99 power bar/surge protector

I don't see the switch, but it says it has one...

The Noma units I was refering to does not have an on / off switch.

I am sure I have seen some with a switch, but I will bet they are not cheap.

I'm not a big fan of those, plug in one transformer block and your done.
They also fall apart really easily. Especially the ground pins.
