License Plate Sticker Renewal

Dumb question, but I can't seem to find the answer.
Bought a car last June 2017. My birthday is on September.
Today I got a letter asking me to renew the License Plate Sticker on/before September 2017.

My understanding was the dealer paid for the initial license plate sticker.
So they only paid for 3 months (June to Sept)?

So if I bought a car after my birthday on September 2017, the dealer will pay for the whole year?

sticker is until your birth day. I am sure if you check your records you will find that you paid for it and not the dealer.

Forget the letter, what is the year on the sticker itself?

They pay on your behalf, it's until your next birthday. Bad luck of the draw.

Are you sure you didn't pay for the sticker yourself? There's usually a "licensing fees" section on your invoice which includes plates and validation stickers that is added to the final price. At any rate, if the sticker was only for 3 months, it would have been pro-rated for 3 months.

The dealer doesn't pay for anything, you do.

If you got new plates then the licence sticker would only be until your next birthday, unless you instructed the dealer otherwise.

But yeah, what is the year on your current sticker?

Found it, I paid my dealer $30 and they did the registration for me. So you guys are correct, I paid the pro-rated fee.
Thanks for the help, this is all new to me.
