I applaud the effort but I think this is going to be a tough list to compile.

Each day, less and less people are paying with cash. Beyond that, $50 bills are uncommon. I know when I get them, I'm trying to offload them as quickly as possible. It's legal tender, stores are suppose to accept it, I think the issue is that stores are carrying so little cash, they are afraid they won't have enough cash on hand for you and/or other customers.

Finally, I think you'll find this phenomena at Mom & Pop stores, as opposed to big box retail stores.

That's illegal. Just how/where would that work? The sale wouldn't be able to be recorded, inventory numbers would be off. The only place I can possibly see this happening although highly unlikely is a self owned non chain/non franchise store. I know contractors do this but I've never heard of any stores that have done it.

Depends how you pay... if its credit/debit = exact penny

Cash will round up or down... so technically you should always switch up payments to save pennies!

Example: A purchase is $1.02 = would cost you $1.02 on debit/credit and only $1 in cash
But a purchase of $1.03 would cost you $1.05 in cash but would only be $1.03 on debit/credit... save that $0.02!

Repeat for life and save a million dollars!

Recently I have encountered stores that do not accept the non-plastic Canadian money. Mainly Chinese stores because there is the news of counterfeit currency circulating around and all these new immigrants have (apparently) never seen the old paper money that we used to use in Canada.

I found some old bills at home in a drawer...they were pristine -- from past years Chinese New Year red envelope (lucky money) -- I tried paying at a Chinese bakery. The lady stared the the bills for a while, then asked her husband to look at it...and then they discussed (in Mandarin which I did not understand)...and then told me that they cannot accept that. They asked if I had the plastic money.

I did...so I was still able to pay...but apparently paper money is no good to the new immigrant store owners.

The Frying Dutchman in Springfield refused to take my $50 bills. But then again, they also lied to me about being all-you-can-eat. I am currently taking them to court. My attorney Lionel Hutz is going to tear them apart.

Marutama Ramen on Robson doesn’t take $20s or $50s. In fact, they won’t take $100s, $10s, or $5s either. And I’m quite sure they won’t take 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, $1, or $2 coins. Wow that’s a long list of stuff they won’t take.
