Literal day trip to Michigan - what to prepare for:

So as the title says, going to Michigan from Windsor for a quick day trip (the usual Target, Menards, Olive Garden, gas run) but haven't been keeping track of what we need to go and return.

Details:
Group A - All fully vaccinated, all had positive COVID in Dec (received the really light printed copy of positive provincial test from Oak Health).

Group B - All fully vaccinated, did not have COVID.

So I understand fully vaccinated are ok to enter US, so that's solved. It's the return. Im guessing this is what's needed?

Group A - bring all docs and provide with ArriveCAN. Positive outcome should be ok to come back without paying for anything

Group B - complete ArriveCAN. Bring some of the free tests we received and complete them during dinner via tele health or whatever other group is cheapest. Present all to border.

Sound right? Any suggestions otherwise to the plan? Thanks in advance friends!

I'm very, very paranoid when it comes to American healthcare. So even if it's a day trip, I would make sure I have travel medical insurance.

Just last week I took a quick trip over to Port Huron from Sarnia (over there for 2 hours or so) and these are the steps I took:

*I fall under Group B - fully vaccinated, have never tested positive for COVID.

- A few days in advance, I booked a Rapid NAAT Test at a Wallgreens in Port Huron. Used the US address of where I pick up my parcels = free test.
- The day before travelling to the states I completed the ArriveCAN app trip info.
- As soon as I crossed the border, I went to Wallgreens and got my COVID test.
- Completed my errands in the states.
- Received my test results in about 1 hour and 10 minutes by email from Wallgreens.
- Crossed the border by presenting my negative COVID test results and ArriveCAN info.

You got it covered, OP.
Walgreens is the cheaper option - free - that's what I did this past weekend in Detroit; we got tested simultaneously and the results were emailed in 60 minutes.

Great! Would you be able to share which Walgreens you went to in Detroit as well as what to ask for/other info needed to get this done?

Book online at Walgreens.com, bookings open 7 days ahead of time in most markets. You need to provide a US address, hotel, shopping mall, whatever is fine.

You want to book the Rapid NAAT Test. It's molecular so is valid for 72 hours from test time for Canadian entry.

I'm jealous. I'm sure I've had it. I've been exposed so many times but never had a reason to get tested. A positive test sure would make traveling easier.

These rules are an absolute joke. I'm also certain of they were challenged in court the government would lose. They can't prevent you from entering, particularly if you can prove that your positive test is a result of catching it in Canada (such as a day trip).

These tests for 72 hour trips are ridiculous.. Any test at this point really.. It's everywhere so what are they stopping..
I can see it for air travel.. Land border crossings are just silly

Any of them, sir. (I did the one on 1965 E BIG BEAVER RD, Troy, MI 48083)
I was staying in Troy area, northern part of Detroit, and pretty much every Walgreens in Troy offers the test. Easy peasy.
Search for whatever locality you want, say Troy, MI...

Easier, faster option at a cost would be the $45 rapid tests offered at the Ambassador Bridge Duty Free on the Detroit side.

Thanks to all that added to this thread. I used the information on here successfully, and would reco the same to anyone else doing a day/weekend trip.

Side note, our original appt Walgreens was offline, so they said check another one to get it done. Second Walgreens was offline as well. Third Walgreens took the samples but did not contact us within the usual 1-2 hours.

We drove back to #3 before leaving US and had not received our results yet. We were able to have them expedite the results for us while we waited. Minor setback but at least you can do such a thing!

Thanks again everyone!
