Living in Ontario, working in Ontario but T4 shows Quebec

Hi All,

For some reason, my wife's T4 is showing that she works in Quebec when she's an Ontario resident working in Ontario. She works for the government so this is an obvious Pheniox issue but wondering what this means to our finances? In such a situation would she have paid more or less tax than if it was to show the true situation which is that she lives and works in Ontario?

It shouldn't matter what the form says. I used to get one that said Calgary on it because that's where head office was.

One reports at the beginning of their income tax return which province they were resident in on Dec 31, 2017. All the rest flows from there. If by some weird chance they deducted tax as if she was resident in QC, she will get some money back when she files. Otherwise, it won't matter.

It doesn't matter. They really only care where she lived on December 31 - even if she actually worked in Quebec but lived in Ontario she would get refunded any excess taxes that were withheld. My husband lives and works on the Ontario side, but his T4 also shows Quebec (he's a Federal Gov't employee). I figure the reason his shows up like that is because his department would normally be stationed in the building that had a fire in Gatineau - but that was a couple years ago and they are still saying Quebec as the province of work. When he was in the military (he retired last March), he did work in Gatineau but lived in Ontario. It will all work out once she does her taxes if she has been overcharged.
