[Loblaws] Raid Wasp and Hornet $2.94 (YMMV)

Raid Wasp and Hornet for $2.94 at the Bells Corner Loblaws in Ottawa. Full shelf of the products next to the magazine section.

Thought it was cheap for a Raid product and a quick google reveals its ~11 bucks at other retailers like HD and CT.

Had the same problem.. used a kitchen butane torch to get rid of them. They came back again the next week and had to repeat.. will see if they think 3rd time is the charm. Hopefully they will find some other place instead.

This is a good deal. FYI WD40 works fine, too.

Please, please do not kill these european wasps, they eat the european gypsy moth caterpillar, and the latter is a greater inconvenience for me.

It's OUR house now, a mere timeshare if you will. See you next week.

I clearly ID'ed the wasps I've had to be yellow-jacket wasps. Heck I remember when it was like -35C outside in the dead of winter I had a yellow jacket wasp come out of no where flying inside the house. I ould not trace where it came from as it was like every few days another one would come out of no where. I think I killed like 12 that winter.

Really? Got a source on that? I can;t remember but I think they have permetherin in the wasp sprays.

My understanding is that the wasps change thier locations year after year. Some years I don't have that problem with the wasps at the front doors but then a few years later ( no set time just random it seems) they take up residence up front again. I can't use a butante torch as it's up near the porch inside the stone wall/aluminum porch cieling cover.

Yeah, myself. I've destroyed nests with it when I didn't have anything else on hand and was too lazy to go buy wasp spray. Wasps won't go anywhere near the nest again after you soak it in that stuff and it dies off. Specific poison is better, but poison is still poison. I'm sure other stuff like oven cleaner, brake parts cleaner etc. would also work fine.

Apparently a preemptive spray of WD40 to an area where wasps tend to like to make nests also discourages them from even starting.

Dish soap and water is an effective solution for killing wasps. Here are some googled results. There are lots of Youtube videos on the subject.

I put the solution into a hand held garden pump sprayer like this and adjust the nozzle for distance. I got mine from Princess Auto.

Second this. Dawn soap and water works impressively well also. Kills them almost instantly.

WD 40 works great for ants nets as well.
