While I'm a fan of cast iron in general, I'm not sure why anyone would get this in place of getting a Weber portable, either a Smoky Jo or a Go Anywhere Charcoal (which is what i have and LOVE).

I am on the fence about it as well, it doesn't seem very practical in terms of portability, cooking surface area and maintenance.

Yeah probably the good thing is that you can use lodge forever. Weber is good for 10years or so.

I've got a Go Anywhere Charcoal that's approaching 10 years old and no where near being worn out. I could probably do with a replacement charcoal rack for the bottom but it's certainly still well functional. And it sees a fair amount of use - I've got a Weber OTG kettle and a Kamado but I still use the Go Anywhere periodically if I'm just cooking for me and my girls want something else.

My Weber Go Anywhere Charcoal > 15 years is still going fine. i can't see how you got "10" years.

I hate websites that make you sign up just to view an item.

Does this site actually get any business? I’m not signing up just to view.

This website should be blacklisted from rfd for all time. Or until they remove "sign up to view"

I've been using this for almost 15 years and it's great! It weights a ton, but the heat retention from the cast iron is worth it for a proper searing. The footprint isn't bad at all.
