[London Drugs] Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55-58U0 Laptop, i5-10300H, gtx 1650ti, 16gb ram, 256 ssd + 1tb hdd, 144hz screen $999 ($300 off)

This is my first time posting. Can someone tell me what's wrong with this laptop? The deal just seems way too good to be true.

Heres a link to the spec sheet: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/m ... .Q7JAA.006

This is a pretty good deal, but do keep it mind it has a 1650ti, which may be a bit too weak for the 144hz screen, depending on the games you play. I would always recommend 1660ti and up in order to take advantage of the high refresh rate screen.

Haha I was kinda hesitant about buying it because it wasn't ryzen but the specs and the price were just too good.

What would happen if the gpu was too weak? Would the screen just not be refreshing at 144hz?

It just wouldn't take advantage of it as the screen will output as much fps as the gpu allows (as long as it doesn't go over 144fps). With that said, if you play esports titles like csgo or rocket league, it will easily go over 144fps.

The Intel i5-10300H is kinda similar to a Ryzen 5-4600H
It pairs well with a 1650ti.

I got the nitro 5 ryzen 7 4800H from London drugs last week. Feel like premier pro still lags a bit. Anyone else?
Is this one better?

Yeah it's why I said "kinda". I meant it more in the way they are both decent entry-level gaming CPU. When paired with a GTX1650ti the gaming performance should be pretty similar since the GPU will be the bottleneck. The R5-4600H is better but that extra power is just wasted when paired with a GTX1650ti.
The i5-10300H pairs well with a GTX1650ti since the combo closely ressembles the older i7-7700HQ + GTX1060 combo that was popular back in 2017

The R7-4800H is better than the R5-4600H, What GPU do you have paired with it ?

I agree for gaming the weaker cpu might not matter that much. But we are rfd'ers here, we do not buy worse thing for same price. We buy better thing for lower price.
Also, 4600h is 60% better than i5-10300H, that is NOT kind of similar. Also, I think 4600h is more energy effective.

Anyway, is there a different between 1650ti vs 1650? all those naming are so confusing to me.

Bought the Nitro 4800h last week and still waiting for it. 4800h seem better than i5-10300H but you say 4600H is 60% faster than i5-10300H. Really???

The performance numbers are from szaurus's post (interpreted by my limited math skill).
The way I compare them, both the intel and amd machine probably got similar single core performance. However, amd have 6 core vs intel's 4 cores.
For gaming, it probably doesn't matter as much. But the 4600h (or 4800h) are so damn good, I am sure some of us are planning to use the machine more than just gaming.

I bought the 4800h for video editing, is it better than i7-10750h?

According to Notebookcheck;
GTX1650 is similar to a GTX1060 Max-Q
GTX1650ti is similar to a regular GTX1060
So maybe a 10-15% increase but nothing major.

A difference of 60% on a particular benchmark score is not the equivalent of being 60% better. Misleading to state otherwise.

I bought the Ryzen 7 4800h version of this last week. Unfortunately, the screen was washed out and too dim, and I had lots of issues with usbc display out. Returned mine

That's true. But 2 extra cores is 2 extra cores, plus they have similar single core performance. If you have a few applications open at the same times, those extra cores will help.
So the screen is that bad? I guess they have to cut corners somewhere. Why usbc display out? Does it have a hdmi port?
