[London Drugs] Asus Vivobook Flip 14" Ryzen 5500U 8Gb RAM - 512GB SSD - $749.99

Seems like a warm deal to have Asus quality with the current Ryzen 5500U processor.

Runs Linux Mint and Ubuntu (after disabling Bitlocker in Windows and changing a BIOS setting)
No bloatware except for Mcaffee
Backlit US style keyboard (no French bilingual)
Comes with touch pen
4GB soldered + 4GB slot
Has IPS panel at 250 nits brightness

Reason: retailer field wasn't syncing up

Why down votes?
Price seems reasonable?

People here seem to consider 8GB ram completely unusable

Though, this is very similar to the Costco deal for $50 less. Better (?) processor and less ram, but you can easily open and upgrade one of the 4GB slots.

Have you tested this specific model with Linux, or is there a review mentioning its compatibility?

Briefly tested with Ubuntu and Mint.

Touchscreen, wifi, bluetooth, hotkeys for backlit keyboard were all working properly.

If there s something else you'd like me to check I can try to accommodate.

(1x) SODIMM available.

Still a pass for me.

The price could be a little better.

How is the battery life on Ubuntu? I'm going to be installing Ubuntu on a different laptop (Dell Inspiron 15 5515) and I'm wondering if Ubuntu Gnome with TLP will be sufficient enough or should I look into something like Kubuntu or Xubuntu to further extend my battery life.

The build quality seems very good with no keyboard flex or wobbling when sat on a flat surface. The fan is very quiet and is barely on for basic web surfing or Youtube.

The hottest I was able able to get processor was upto 55 degrees Celsius with Intel Burnin Test with ambient room temperature of 22 degrees Celsius.

The screen seems bright and colorful but it is very glossy. The London Drugs in downtown Vancouver had one set up in the showroom to play around with in person.

It's not downvote worthy.

It gets a neutral sidevote from me.

Indeed. I'm in the market for the exact specs and price.
But Costco one has bad reviews makes me think.
I'm not going to use it in Canada so warranty is a big concern.
