[London Drugs] HOT!!! Klipsch RB-61 II Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) - $323.99

I'd been waiting for these to drop to the $500 range on Amazon again and I accidentally noticed that LD has them on sale for $323.99. At that price, I'd say it's a blistering hot deal. The model has been long discontinued, but Klipsch still has new stock available. Also, changes in speaker tech isn't as significant as computers and smartphones, so buying old models of speakers isn't a big deal.

The RB-61 II speakers are from the old Reference series that were very very good, before Klipsch went and watered it down. The old Reference series became the Reference Premiere series.

The RB-61 II were replaced by the RP-160M, followed by the RP-600M.

Currently LD also has the RP-600M bookshelf speakers on sale for $499.99 along with several other Klipsch speakers, but IMO the RB-61 II speakers are by far the best value for the money at the current sale price.

A must buy at this price!

I would get the RB61 as long as you have the space, or if you’re gonna place the speakers close to a wall, as the RB61 is front ported while the RP500 is rear ported (Bass will be more controlled and less boomy).

The RP500 is better looking tho, so I ordered both + the RC52 to see which 3.1 combo I like more.

Thanks OP! Aside from price difference, how do RB61-BII and RP600M compare? Saw a lot raving reviews on the RP600M.

Planning to use this with a TV and for vinyls. How necessary is a center? Placement would be difficult for me as my TV is on top of my fireplace

Rp600m for $499 is super hot

I don't think I have seen them that low.

Maybe a new model is on the way.

I went with 3x Kef Q150 a few years ago, which cost me $450 (for 3). The center for Klipsch is very expensive, but I still like the Rp600m more.

Maybe I should sell 3x Q150s and go with 2x Rp600ms? My new tv room is larger and kef increased the prices on q150s in Canada so I should at least be able to get all my money back on kijiji

I doubt it... the RP-600M aren't that old. It'll be a few more years until they release a successor.

Honestly, I don't think the RP-600M are nearly $200 better. I'm just going off reviews, comments, and Youtube videos. The RP-600M are better, but the margin is small.

Not unless you need a smaller speaker and want to spend more.

You will need something to power them as these are passive speakers, a separate receiver/amplifier. As for PC/nearfield, this is a tad much and unless your desk area is large. A smaller bookshelf speaker would be fine, however this deal is blazing hot as OP stated.

If you want it mainly for PC, look into the self powered R14M (i think is the model number).

I've got a old turn table and receiver (JVC RS-7) i got from my parents along with a great collection of records. No speakers though. Should I get these for my living room?

I am setting up a home theatre and need to purchase an A/V receiver and 3 speakers at the front (already have 2 rear left and right speakers). Would these work for the front left and right? Will they be powered. If connected to a A/V reciever?

no, they would still be passive speakers, the power is your receiver.

Yes, these would work as your fronts. They're passive speakers, so they'll receive power from the AVR.
