We've had a very crappy Hamilton Beach blender forever and, making more smoothies lately, were looking for something new. It was really hard to pull the trigger on a Blendtec or Vitamix at the cost, because as crappy as our blender was, it still made smoothies...
My wife stumbled across this Ninja recently on sale. I was hesitant at first, because in the past I'd read some not so great reviews/comparisons for Ninja blenders, but most of them were for the older style blender with the diagonal blades up the middle of the pitcher. This one looks much more like a Blendtec in it's shape and blade design.
I read a few reviews today that suggested while it wasn't quite up to par with the Blendtecs or Vitamixes, it was fairly close at a fraction of the cost, making it a good value choice.
