[London Drugs] Razer Blade 14" Ultraportable gaming laptop $1299

I saw this at my local LD store, but I don't see it online. YMMV, so call ahead to check stock.

specs are really good for the price. however screen is a bit of a disappointment considering it is normally a $2000 laptop

nice price. good find. same as above no idea how a 1600x900 ever made its way onto a razerblade

That screen resolution might be a typo. Doesnt the razor blade have a super high res screen?

edit: not a typo. Specs are correct as this is the older model.

It is supposed to be 3200 x 1800 or something like that. So most likely a typo or they used some kinda scaled resolution or something?

It's 1600x900 my kid has one, screen isn't very good for 1k+ but the tradeoff may be worth it for some of you

I looked into it. The latest generation of razer blade has the super hi resolution screen. This version does indeed have 1600x900. In a decision between resolution and frame rates, I think the engineers chose frame rates.

I always boggles my mind to see people complaining about a low resolution on a gaming laptop. Give me 1024x768 even, if I'll get consistant 60fps.

at 14" that resolution is okay. you can turn up anti-aliasing to 8x and you'll still get maxed frame rates.

well if you are going to pay $2000 you should expect to get consistant 60fps on 1920x1080 lol.....

I've seen it at this price at the London Drugs in windermere in Edmonton. I think it's gonna be hit or miss around the city though, because some of the LD's here have some tiny computer departments

This is definitely an interesting deal. While there are laptops with GTX 860M that are tiny bit cheaper (ex. Lenovo Y50 at about $1,000), most of them have full 1080p screen so 860M might not be able to keep up in new games at that resolution. However, this one's at lower resolution at slightly less performance from GTX 765M, so the performance in terms of FPS-wise in games should be pretty similar to those 1080p laptops with GTX 860M.

This deal may not be attractive for people who absolutely needs a 1080p screen or doesn't care about the bulkiness of the laptops. But for others, this deal offers something that's powerful with portability as a bonus, so it's pretty good. Just my two cents.

Great price and it would have made my decision a little harder when I chose the w230st. Great reviews on this laptop and worth the $1200 tag if you need something portable. Not worth $2k IMO. Also IMO, 14" is not ultra portable and this term should be held for <14".

Those that hold 1080p as a go no go spec at this size are the same people that get fooled on every other stat stuffing product like 80,000 BTU BBQs. You do not need 1080p under 15". The screen is too small to notice the difference.

Anyways, good price on a good portable gaming laptop. Just don't expect top end games like BF4 to work on this

Would be hot if this was the 2014 version with the GTX870M. But at this price I think I would save a bit more and go for a laptop with a 970M. The GTX970M is up to 40% faster than an 870M because it's a new architecture instead of a rebrand. The Gigabyte P34W v3 is the same size and almost the same thickness with an IPS 1080p screen for higher FPS on your games. It also has upgradeable ram (unlike the blade which is soldered on), more usb ports, wired ethernet and a GTX970M. It will be released this month and should sell for ~$1600 in the US so maybe ~$1800 here in Canada.

EDIT:
Looks like you can get the Gigabyte P34G v2 for $150 more than the Razer and it comes with a GTX860M. 1 left for anyone living in Winnipeg:

This is the 2013 model. All the specs match the 2013 model. It's still a good deal considering that it uses the 4xxx-HQ series processor (tray cost of ~$380 and only available in laptops in the $1600-2000 range) which is on par with the 2013 Haswell desktop i5-4670.

The 2014 model has the 3200x1800 res and equally low quality panel.

Spoken like someone with no knowledge whatsoever. It's 2000$ genius, why wouldn't people expect a laptop with a high-res screen at that price point? Are we talking about a budget gaming laptop here?

Also, 1024x768 native res hasn't been offered on laptops for over a decade.. (plus that's now even standard HD) lol

That $2000 price is wildly overinflated. That was the price at launch, which was a year and a half ago (this is the 2013 model). Even then, it was overpriced (as Razer Blades are, IMO). For $1300 I think that this is... Warm-ish, maybe.

Im not sure if this has been clarified yet, but the specs are showing it to be the 2013 model (765 and bad display). Not as hot as it would be if it was the 2014 model. You will NOT be able to run most 2014 games on max settings with this, but if youre gonna be playing league of legends or csgo you will be fine. I have the 2014 version.
