They should update their website with this new requirement before posting a message to go to the website for updates.

So is it all stores or "some locations"?

A few Asian supermarkets already do this. Costco and Longo's will be the start of all the Western stores to do this I'm sure.

What's a good source to buy face masks? If I'm spending 90c-$1 for one I certainly don't want the questionable ones with chinese writing on the packaging...

You don't need medical grade masks, just something that will stop the airborne droplets. Remember we'll still be practicing a minimum 2m physical distancing. The mask is just another layer to slow the spread. If anyone is sick, they should still be staying home.

Not surprised
Believe in the not too distance future masks will be required everywhere if you are away from your home / property
As we transition between the Isolation Phase when the Pandemic is surging
To the Prevention Phase ... of trying to stop a resurgence (2nd wave)

Agree with other RFDers though
This second phase may be a lot more difficult to get everyone to buy into
(Easily seen here even on RFD)
There needs to be A LOT OF EDUCATION DONE BY PUBLIC HEALTH
To continue to protect ALL OF US CDNS

(I do my bit to protect you ... and in turn you do your part to protect me ... together, we protect a wider group ... it’s like how safe sex / a condom ... changed the face of AIDS. Before AIDS, condoms were rarely in use as a method of birth control / sexual protection any more ... not everyone likes condoms either, but there is SCIENCE THAT SUPPORTS THEIR USE in the fight against that virus too )

So yes ... we have to buy into these masked measure
Cuz if we don’t ... we will be
(A) Going backwards into another Surge & Isolation Phase
(B) Which could be MUCH WORSE than the first ... as was the 2nd Wave of the 1918 Pandemic
The second wave of the 1918 pandemic was much more deadly than the first. The first wave had resembled typical flu epidemics; those most at risk were the sick and elderly, while younger, healthier people recovered easily. By August, when the second wave began in France, Sierra Leone, and the United States,[102] the virus had mutated to a much more deadly form October 1918 was the month with the highest fatality rate of the whole pandemic.[103]
So NO CDN should take these preventive measures lightly ...
in total the 1918 Pandemic had 4 waves ... lasting from Spring 1918 thru to end of year 1920
We’ve learned a lot since then
But unless people heed that info
Until we get a vaccine
We could just as easily go down the same road ... unfortunately

I imagine if everyone cooperates through this next phase with face masks maybe they can ease the restrictions at some stores with the maximum number of people in store. They'll likely maintain the social distancing lines for checkout but my hope the stores won't have to be limited to 1/4 - 1/3 full meaning more people can get in and out of the stores rather than waiting in line outside.

Just came back from my local Longos. There were no signs or announcements made about this. The cashier didn't know and told me to ask customer service. At customer service one lady said it's always mandatory to wear masks in their store (probably thought I was referring to store staff). The other lady said it's not mandatory. When I mentioned the social media posts, she said if it's on social media then it's probably true...

Update: and I just checked my email and there's a message from the CEO confirming that face masks will be required starting May 4

Bright side of RFD: Often find good deal
Dark side of RFD: Tons of stuff that I don't need but still got them because of RFD

It's on their Instagram and Facebook Page, and they sent an email out.

Email:
As a family business, our number one priority is the health and safety of our Team Members and Guests. To help protect our community, effective May 4th, 2020, all Guests will be required to wear a mask or face covering while in our stores. This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 2. If you are not able to wear a mask or face covering, please speak with a manager so we can accommodate you.

As you may know, our Team Members and Suppliers wear a face covering, and now our Guests are required to do the same. Please bring a mask or face covering that covers your mouth and nose with you when you shop. Masks are also available for purchase in-store. Should you require assistance please speak with a Team Member at the entrance.

Thank you for your support and patience as we work together to keep everyone safe.

Sincerely,
Anthony Longo
President & CEO

There are literally hundreds of sites that sell $10-$15 quality cotton ones that are washable and reusable. Many with cool designs too. I bought mine from a local company that shipped them out in two days. Buy a few of them, put the mask in an enclosed compartment once done using one, use hand sanitizer, wash each one in your washing machine with warm or lukewarm water after use, and wash your hands. Done, you have kept safe.

No excuse for anyone. We all need to do our part, until there is an effective vaccine or treatment.

Personally I am a fan of the prints on these masks (they send a distinct message to anyone that gets to close) and if anyone is offended..........Oops, I am a firm believer in ask for forgiveness later. Hey and maybe I am a urologist, in which case its a totally workplace appropriate item.

I blame health care leadership team. They are the one saying mask is not effective and virus was not a big deal in Ontario

Not mention we had 2 months to prepare when it was happening in China . we need review the whole thing to be better if there is an one in the future after this is settled

But definitely feel we learned something from SARS, just not enough

Can you share some reputable local retailers in GTA? I'd like buy from them if price is reasonable (in current situation), also it supports local business
