Looking for an inexpensive tablet for kids

My son in grade one has been using my first generation Asus Transformer until recently we notice it is not compatible to the study app that his school gave him…….. So looking for a replacement, preferably with Android 5.0. What do you guys think about the Acer below ? It is smaller than the Transformer 10” but maybe a better fit for a small kid.

I also notice RCA Viking Pro 10 is very inexpensive with 10”, Android 5 and a detachable keyboard like Transformer (keyboard is not really a requirement though as we don’t really using the keyboard transformer at all LOL).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would get an iPad if your school supports iOS - yes it's more expensive, but less headaches as well.

He was using the same app with the Transformer last year. Don't know why it is all the sudden saying it is not compatible. I am always an Android fan and don't own any Apple product though ;)

You're right. Looks like there's a Lollipop ROM for the TF101:

This would obviously be your cheapest option and it doesn't hurt to try. You just need to root your Transformer first, but there should be guides out there for how to do that.

If that doesn't do it I would get the Nexus 7 (FHD - 2013 version) if you can still find it. We have three of them in our house. Two for the kids and one for me. They are just phenomenal. Still fast with a fantastic screen and fully supported by Google. We're on the latest Marshmallow version already - long before anyone else.
