Look for both Elongated and comfort height.

Mainstream = 2" flap, basic toilet, but get comfort height
Cadet = 3" flap for max capacity - but get elongated and comfort height
Champion = 4" flap - overkill, but get elongated

Glace bay - avoid unless you have no $, budget toilet

Thanks for the reply! budget is around $250.

You meant these for mainstream / cadet

The Mainstream equivalent at lowes toilet would be the Sonoma

Mainstream / Sonoma when on sale is about $160

Yes, they seem to alternate when they go on sale. I don't think the Cadet goes on sale that often

I personally like the Cadet models, but they don't go on sale that often

the MaP rating for the 3" flush valve is 1000+ vs 600-800 for Mainstream / Sonoma

if you are not in rush, the American Standard Mainstream toilet (both standard and comfort height) have been on periodic sales at HD for around 118$.

I prefer single flush because it can be fixed with (mostly) standard parts that can be bought anywhere.

We have a newer American Standard in one washroom and it's garbage, has to be flushed multiple times during a number two. We're gonna replace it very soon with a Toto, as when we remodeled our powder room, we installed a Toto and it's been great.

I bought a special plunger for it and in the two years or so we've had the toilet, we've used the plunger zero times. Wifey wanted a one-piece model, so we ended up paying over $800, but there's no need for that at all, there are ones starting at $250ish that flush the same. My buddy has three of the cheaper ones in his house and he's extremely happy with them.

Quick search shows one model that's $250 without seat https://plumbingonline.ca/products/toto-cst244ef-01 . Shop around as these kind of stores always give good discounts. Toto has tons of different model numbers, here's a quick chart to help https://images3.plumbersstock.com/750/7 ... raphic.jpg

One last thing, don't pay much attention to the MAP number, we had a basic toilet that had a MAP of 1,000 ( which IIRC is the max) and it was the biggest piece of crap ever, we ripped it out after 6 months, totally useless.

I often see the Cadet recommended, but I have had super mixed results with them. In 2007, I installed three of these in our house and I couldn't talk about it enough (sad, but true). This thing could not be clogged by anything I could produce. It was a beast. Never any type of issue.

Fast forward to 2016 and I installed three more in our (different) house. All three were junk (all three have been replaced). Clogged endlessly, all three had the water blister issue on the flapper that required periodic puncturing, and two of the three had a manufacturing defect in which too much foam was installed in the tank, so the fill valve would not reliably rise (and shut off the water) because it was hitting the foam. I had to cut out the excess foam to allow the fill valve free range. Terrible quality control and equally bad performance.

All three have been replaced by the Kohler Highline and we have been very pleased with their performance.

Have both the Mainstream and Cadet, they're both okay. Not great, but not terrible either. The mainstream is in the basement so not used nearly as much, but hadn't given us a problem.

We also have a Toto Ultramax and a Kohler Elmbrook. Both far superior to the other two in terms of flush and bowl wash. They're actually pretty awesome. The Elmbrook can be had for just over $300, I think.

comfort height is nice, but difficult and uncomfortable if you have kids...

also if you install comfort height, your toilet paper holder (if it's in the wall) will be lower than you are used to.

I personally don't feel comfortable on a comfort height toilet, i prefer the regular toilet.

Cadet is ok. Installed one and even with barely any use, the flushing mechanism failed. I'd probably still take it over Glacier Bay.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Clogging is what I am most worried about and that’s why I started this post.

Haven't needed any yet, it's only 2 years old. From what I can remember, they're readily available but are a bit more expensive than a domestic brand like AS.
