How serious is Canada about essential travel from the USA?

When the closure first started I saw a few NY plates here and figured that they were already here before the lockdown so whatever but today I saw a car from NY towing a boat.

Really?? Lol come on man somebody explain this. How did he get across here? Leisure fishing isn’t essential.

I think anyone seeing an american plate should dutifully call police and inform them of the fact. I am hoping whatever american gets caught, eats a big fine and is escorted to the nearest border, and his name is entered into the CBSA computers and is banned from Canada (unfortunately watching border security, Canada only bans people for 1 year instead for life like the americans are doing)

Make them do a non-refundable $300 physical exam as a condition of entering. This way there's some self-selection of healthy people making the trip and we get to make some greenbacks as well to support our healthcare system and communities.

On a side note, as long as they're healthy, I'm glad that they're supporting businesses in Canada.

RCMP start handing out $1200 tickets to Americans caught vacationing in Banff
Does Canada enforce these tickets like US does? In the US, if you get a ticket and don't pay it in 3 months, apparently the state "suspends your licence", meaning in their books your DL is no longer valid. Then they arrest you and force you to pay.

Does Canada do the same thing? If they don't pay the ticket, get them thrown in jail?

No, they just apologize for the inconvenience and offer them up a Tim's card!

It’s my understanding that these are ‘part 2’ tickets. If they don’t get paid before the court date, there will be a warrant for arrest. I’m not sure when the court date is, but if a warrant is issued, it’s likely they will get flagged if they’ll try to enter Canada again.

Ya... and if they are US Tourists driving to Alaska
Ya know they’ll be driving back thru Canada to get home afterwards

So there’s NO LOOPHOLE not to pay

In fact, by paying in advance of the Summons to Appear (court date)
They are actually PLEADING GUILTY

Which they are ... caught red handed stopped Enroute doing touristy things
Vs driving as quickly as possible to their Destination (Alaska)
By being deemed ESSENTIAL TRAVEL by CBSA

Some people are just dim-wits, and get what they deserve IMO

Lol, if they stupid enough TO NOT PAY THE TICKET NOW
They’ll find not only a warrant ... and more fines / legal costs await them when they try to come back thru Canada on their return
BUT ... it would be within CBSA’s power just to refuse them entry to Canada entirely

In which case wouldn’t that be a pickle
Trying to get your vehicle / RV / Fishing Boat back from Alaska to mainland USA
WITHOUT going thru Canada

I think we’ll hear more about these rule benders ... “Hey the law don’t apply to me types”
In the months to come
