Loud Chewing/eating food noises are sooo disgusting

this is very much a rant....but when people eat their food ...be it anything and its a quiet room, all this slurping and chewing sounds gross and disgusting. very annoying....the noises are just so unbearably disgusting and at the same time it gets on my nerves.

Lots of times it's a cultural thing...other times it's one sibling trying to gross out another sibling...

I'm with you on this.. I'm a fairly tolerant person of many things, but for some reason listening to people consume foods and beverages really irks me.

It seriously angers me to the point either I or they must leave.

Agreed about sometimes it is a cultural thing. Japanese people slurp as a way of saying the food is good...almost rude if they don't slurp.

I agree that it is disgusting though, being a westerner.

My sister's boyfriend eats like that... he makes all these noises when he chews. He chews with his mouth open. Sounds like..'jerp jerp... slurps... shhhhrup' etc...

She invited our family out for a nice dinner and my mom was being nice and didn't say anything. She would've slapped me if I did that. She told my sister to teach him some manners afterwards when he's not around.. haha.

At least it is quieter than a loud person at a nearby table. I've heard horrible cackles of talking/laughing during a meal and they were almost too frequent.

If this is equal to fingernails on a chalkboard to you, I think you may need to see a specialist

I have the same reaction as ProfessorChaos when someone nearby is doing this, and it's easier to listen to nails on a chalkboard (because at least that's over after a few seconds, not 15-20 minutes).

I can appreciate that, so it doesn't annoy me as much if it happens to be someone of Japanese heritage.

Unfortunately that's seldom in the case here in Vancouver; any other ethnicity (incl. Caucasian) and I have to exercise a lot of restraint not to SCREAM at the person "Would you MIND NOT sharing the sounds and CHEWED BITS OF FOOD from your meal with EVERYBODY ELSE?!?!?!"

Yeah, it's a really annoying to hear someone slurping and chewing with their mouth open, just wanna nail it shut or say something.

BTW..cipher, that picture that you have on your profile is very mesmerizing (did I spell it right??)

You are right!

I've often wondered why it bugs me so much as I can deal with most any other thing. I'm highly tolerant, but listening to someone eating and drinking just makes me snap inside.

And I actually feel bad, because I know the people aren't doing it on purpose or that they know it bugs me and they don't care. It's all unintentional, but it just infuriates me.

I do need to see a specialist on this one thing, it just seems like such a stupid thing to require therapy over.

nice to see i'm not alone

listening to people eat drives me crazy. chewing sounds annoy me soooooo much! its so bad that if i am watching tv and my husband is eating in the livingroom, i make him stop chewing when i put the guide on the tv and there is no sound.

i'll listen for so long and then i'll look over at my husband and say.. ok enough!! the chewing sounds drive me crazy :(

i tolerate it when i am out, i cant treat everyone like they are my husband, haha
That's my 2cents worth
