[Lowe's] Expired. Whirlpool 44,000-Grain Water Softener $475 before tax ymmv

All Ended
——————-

Only Red Deer now.

-------------------------

Some stores in the west, like Red Deer, Calgary Crowfoot, Abbotsford BC, Edmonton Gateway, are still having the deal. Mostly gone in Ontario, due to either RFD effect or store changing the price. That is 1pm on jul 22nd

Looks like a price or system error because most stores I checked before I posted this thread have already removed it from the special order. So get it fast if you need one.

Just found out Lowe's Canada is having a great deal on Whirlpool 44K Grain Water Softener

It is listed for $679, which is already 20% discounted price of the original price. But please try adding into your cart and go to your cart to choose in-store pick up option. Then you will see the magic. The price will further go down by another $120 to $559 before tax under store special order. I tried several stores in Ontario, like in GTA or in Barrie, they all gave that same price for in-store pickup.

Further plus the 15% scratch and save discount, you will get it all the way down to $475 before tax, which is a super hot deal if you need one. I'd wish to get this deal on Friday night where there is the 20% off, but unfortunately it is too late.

Don‘t forget the 2% rebates from gcr.

The 33K grain one is not on special order though. But as per my research, the better capacity the better efficiency. Because the generation process is more efficient for higher capacity model at same amount of grain. I might be wrong on that though. Anyway, great deal and enjoy softened water.

Any reviews for this model? Is it a good deal at $475? Have no idea about water softeners

I'm in need of new water softener, since mine broke. Anyone know if Lowes does installs and take away old one for disposal?

I think this is a great price...

But I’ve heard some bad things about these Whirlpool softeners, so I’m going to pass - even though I do need a new one...

Can someone enlighten me on what a 44k grain water softener does?

I assume 44k is the spec on particles?

Also what are the benefits? Tastier water? Smoother showers? No water spots after car wash?

Do you install this right after the main water valve in your home?

Thank you in advance

Not sure about tastier water tho. But the rest is yes. 44k only indicates capacity. Nothing to much about efficiency. Just it could handle larger usage of water or harder water than lower ones

It reduces the amount of hardness or calcium carbide dissolved in your tap water. It’s the stuff that makes that hard white residue / build up on appliances, steam irons, faucets, shower heads etc.

Water harness is expressed in grains/gallon. You can find this in your city utilities water quality report or here
https://www.aquatell.ca/pages/water-har ... ty-ontario

So if your city water hardness is 22 grains per gallon (really hard), a 44,000 grain softener would produce 2,000 gallons of soft water before it needs to be “recharged “ or regenerated. A person uses 80 gallons/day so a family of 4 uses 320 gallons per day. A 44,000 grain unit would need to be regenerated about every 6-7 days

Example
Calgary 166 mg/L = 10 grains/gallon
44,000 grains = 4,400 gallons of soft water before regeneration
Family of 4 = 320 gallons per day = 14 days per regeneration

The main benefits are no more calcium buildup in your appliances - water heater, dishwasher, washing machine, steam irons, so you’ll generally get longer life. Less soap required in washing/ showering, plus things come out cleaner. These are major issues for people on very hard water like well water

Water tastes worse - calcium is replaced by sodium = salt

As outdoor taps are normally bypassed, your car won’t get any benefit

I've tried several stores in the GTA as well. Only Vaughan, Scarborough West, Danforth, Brampton North and Pickering are $559 when added to the cart. It won't go below $679 in the cart for most GTA stores. They must have corrected it for the other stores. Get it while you can or price match if possible.
