I happen to have this one as well since 2017(also from Lowes).. Not sure if it's just a bad batch but the AA battery holder was defective in mine. I put brand new batteries in there and it would continue to beep, I finally took it down for a closer look and realized that the battery +ve terminal was just barely *not* touching the contact by a hair. I tried Duracell's browns and quantums with the same result, and I noticed their "recommended" battery is Energizer E91. Tried to pry the contact out a bit but could not because it's fixed to the plastic case. I ended up adding a small glob of solder to the contact, and it's been fine since.

Probably was just your batch. I also have these, bought it during one of their other 50% of sales that was posted here on RFD. Might have been 2017 or last year. I don't remember. My three work fine without issue. Funny how you say Energizer is their recommended battery when mine came with Duracells. LOL

Should I use one these even if we only have electric stove, heaters at home? The only exception is the car which still runs on gasoline.

Yes 100%, every household should have at the very least one.

How about your water heater? Is that also electric?

If you have absolutely NO gas service I suppose you don't have to but I'd still have one.
