I think the deal for $40 for the 5HP Craftsman is very dead at this point. Maybe Rona will clear out the other shop vac models or the Craftsman 6.5 Model.

4HP (Costco Dewalt) is too weak. Wait for Black Friday, Home Depot should have a 5 HP Ridgid for around the same price.

Why is 4HP too weak for a shop vac?

Depends what you want to do with it. I find my Ryobi cordless shop vac to be just fine for most shop tasks but I need the larger HP of my Craftsman for dust collection on tools, sucking up debris, etc. 4HP in a shop vac will be just fine for most uses.

Also I urge anyone looking to snag the higher 6HP+ Shop Vac units to read the reviews first. It really seems like the high HP motors have issues.

I ordered this from the Nepean Rona last night, and picked it up this AM along with a couple of spare filters. Just assembled it, seems like a decent unit.

I have a couple of Ridgid vacs in the garage (a little 4G/5HP used exclusively for the car and a 12G/5HP for general clean up) but at this price picked up the Craftsman to leave in the back yard to vacuum out the pellet grill, BBQ tray and inside the sheds - this saves me from having to track the vac through the house and isolates the greasy work.

I really like the screw-down hose, the positive locks for the head/bucket connection, and the "locking" retention system for the filter bag; these are nice design features lacking with the Ridgids.

My local RONA's had a bunch of accessories, that were ringing up much cheaper than what was displayed on the shelf. Managed to get 2 of the 5 gallon smaller units from 2 different stores, one at $25 and the other at $32. The $32 has a sticker on the box saying "Now with new black tank". I like that they have 12 ft 1.25" hose, easier for cleaning up the car, and smaller jobs.
The first rule of RFD is, you do not talk about RFD.
