MAG IPTV set top box with VPN trouble

I have a MAG322w1 set top box for IPTV and don't really want to run it without a VPN. I know there is no VPN options on the box itself so I am installing a VPN through my router. I have an ASUS RT-AX56U and I am setting up various servers in the OpenVPN Client. I have tried various servers with ExpressVPN and with NordVPN and only very very few work and those that do work are slow and choppy. The MAG box works well when not on a VPN so I'm pretty sure it's the VPN that I need. So does anyone know which VPN is best for IPTV through a MAG box? Please help. I have a 3 year old who is complaining there is no TV! lol.

Just some advice, but when you pick your VPN server, you'll want to pick the one physically closest to you in an effort to reduce latency. Picking a VPN in Ontario or Canada is likely to have less latency than one in California, New york or another international location.

Are you trying to play geo-blocked content?

Did these VPN services work fine in the past on your router?

No, this is not about geo-blocked content. The VPN services have always been spotty since I've had them for about 2 years now. One server that works today won't work next week or vice versa. I literally have to change servers every few days and this process is getting annoying. And with ExpressVPN for example, I'm not even finding any working servers in all of Canada or the US - I have to start using services from Sweeden or something to get the IPTV to even load. I'm just wondering if anyone else with the MAG box is using a VPN service that seems to work.
