Main shutoff valve type before and after the meter

Hello experts,

I'm planning to replace the both shutoff valves before and after the water meter, from my understanding, it will be a ball valve. Is there any specific type/model/brand to recommend? Does it require a drain port on the valve?

many thanks!

I've never seen a shutoff AFTER the water meter? is it to prevent the water from backflowing to where you are working if you are doing a meter swap? seems like its not really necessary, no?

I wouldn't put in one with a drain as I would solder in a tee and install a sediment faucet instead to act as a drain.
I have no idea what they sell in stores now but don't buy any offshore cheap crap.
