Massive drywall price increase tommorow

If you're in the market for drywall, I was warned a month ago that March would have huge price increases.

As of today home Depot is 13.58 for drywall. Tommorows preview flyer has drywall at 17.80 a sheet.

Just a heads up.

Ended up getting 60 sheets from home depot (price matched plus 10% off from flooreno.ca). Ended up costing $10.78 this past weekend.

They are raising price $4 a sheet and put it in the flyer?

Yup me too. I ordered a month in advance just to secure that price because I heard prices were going up in march.

Yup. Also, the compound is up in price on the flyer too.

Did you get it delivered already? The manager that did the price match was shocked that I wanted it mid March. He tried to get me to get it sooner but with the weather and help from my brother I couldn't get it then. Don't think they can raise the price on me since I already paid. What would happen if they run out of stock, I guess I would just get it whenever they get stock?

I ordered mind Feb 4th and had it delivered this past weekend. My location is out of stock and the manager said that I got the last load. I think you're in the clear for now. Home Depot is pretty good with orders.

For instance I ordered a bunch of plastic PEX elbows and connectors. They didn't have them so they upgraded me to the metal shark bite ones for free

Current prices of 1/2", so I can refer to them tomorrow:

8ft @ $17.84
9ft @ $20.07
12ft @ $26.76

Box of CGC all-purpose is $28.97

I'm in St. John's so everything is more expensive anyway

It was Certaineed/CGC. I think Flooreno price expired on Feb 28 based on the flyer. https://flooreno.ca/product/1-2in-x-48i ... all-panel/. The site is still showing the $11.99 price.

I did get some pushback from the HD manager because the site wasn't actually showing the brand, but the flyer was. He also said HD does not price match on building materials. But he eventually did.

I got 1/2 x 4 x 8.

Just an FYI, **** the staff.

Go through online chat. Its way way easier and you wont get pushback. Theyre so much more eager to help.

Any particular reason why it's going up other than the usual inflation blah-blah-blah?

Tried that. Online order was down for some reason. Chat people were completely fine to price match.

That is a good question. Covid has been here for 2 years now, nothing new there (cost for covid has already been taken into account). Russia-Ukraine conflict? But I am not sure how these 2 countries are involved in drywall. I have no idea.

I can't answer that but my personal experience is always a lot more than you think Smiling Face With Open Mouth

I did the drywall for my 765 sqft basement reno and I had to go back to buy more at least 3-4 times...

I'm not very efficient with my mud. I want to say three boxes per 15x15 room, including ceilings.

For 500sqft, 6-7 boxes? Personally, I'd buy 10 and return what I didn't use. Running out of mud sucks.

Thanks OP, JEDI and RCGA. If I buy 10 now, I guess I will be saving about 50 bucks!

CGC Sheetrock All Purpose-Lite Drywall Compound is $23.73 today and jumping to $28.97 tomorrow. That is 22% inflation!

8 ft drywall is even worst, $13.58 to $17.80. That is 31% inflation!

+1 for buying extra, assuming its not going to sit in your house for a long time.

Yeah, the 400sqft or whatever is claimed on the box is a lie. Well, actually, I would say it may be true if you hang all your drywall and joints perfectly. There is a huge difference in mud between building a joint out 6 inches and building one out 3 feet so you don't have a bunch of speed bumps in the wall.

When I skim coat ceilings, I usually grab about 3 boxes (the 17L premixed) for about 200sqft of ceiling. Rarely use all 3, but usually use 2 or a bit more. But this is thining it down and skim coating ceilings which are usually a bit more wavy.

The box says 450sqft or something, but I would probably assume you get 200sqft of coverage per box. Less if you build out joints a ton, or are the person who just puts a bunch of mud on and sands like crazy. Your coverage will go up a lot if your walls are nice and straight or if you go through the effort to shim your drywall.

I generally use CGC all purpose lite, and then durabond 90 for prefills.

Note: Im talking about sqft of walls, not floor.
