McDonald's discontinued strawberry sundae??

I went to McDonalds with the kids and tried to order 2 Strawberry Sundae's and the lady told me they don't have it... anymore. I'm devastated. I've tried to order it for the last 2 years and it looks like the McDonalds never tried to order it they always said its out of stock or something., were they just being lazy ?I loved the straw berry flavour as a kid. is it just this locaiton or is it discontinued from the head office? strawberry was my favourite flavour. cant they discontinue something else

They've dropped the M&M McFlurry too but it's supposed to be replaced with a Smarties McFlurry.

It may be that Nestle is paying McDonald's to replace M&M with Smarties, leaving Mars/M&M out of the picture. (meaning also that only Nestle related candies will go into a McFlurry...)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Yes. Order it plain and add your own Hershey strawberry syrup...maybe?

Strawberry has been the least favourite Sundae topping flavour @ McDs for eons
Even so when I worked there back in the day as a College Student
The strawberry topping would become a sticky mess ... with dried bits of goo
(Or the occasional fly )
And then it would get tossed out

Whereas the Fudge & Caramel bins would get topped up / replaced entirely several times a day

Strawberry topping was costing McDs no doubt a lot of money just to carry

At some point you call it quits ... surprised that wasn’t back in the 70s or 80s honestly

Could be. They still have Skor which is a Hershey product (and Oreo which is a Mondeleez product).

A “Flurry” of thoughts ...

Well Hershey has had some issues in Canada ...
Esp in Ontario / Eastern Ontario
After they pulled their ops out of Smiths Falls in 2012 (est 1963 )
A lot of folks started to boycott Hershey Products
(Much like the Heinz story in Leamington ... and Cdns moving to French’s Ketchup etc )

If McDs is feeling any pain cuz of Hershey products in the mix
They may indeed be looking around for more Cdn Candy to put into the mix

And although Cdns are ok with M&Ms

Their McFlurrys here began with Smarties ... back in the 1980s

So there’s that too ... Cdns are pretty loyal to their love of Smarties overall

I was never told it was "gone" for good. Every time I asked I was told its was unavailable or they ran out or someone forgot to order it in or something like that which leads me to believe they *could very well* have it but they are choosing to make up some excuse so they do not have to clean the machines or the mess it makes or what not? and by the sounds of PointsHubby it sounds about right, they were making lame excuses not to serve it but could very well if they wanted to.

Being gone means what? they can still get it if required but dont want to because of the sticky mess or gone for good as in the supplier stopped making it for them and its impossible to get it? or is it up to individual locations only?

I toured that factory in the late 1980's while on a school trip to Ottawa. Got some trays of malformed Reese peanut butter cups for super cheap. :)

And yet, if you say "Smartie" to an American, it's an entirely different candy.

Lol, yes the Hershey Factory Store was a popular stop whenever we got to Smiths Falls

In the Summer, we used to make the rounds of Eastern Ontario Provincial Parks, and the kids got excited whenever Murphy’s Point was on the weekend campground list ... cuz it meant a trip into Smith’s Falls to the Hershey Store

Misshapen candy was always a good value ... fine as is ... atop of homemade sundaes, or thrown into baked goods

Yes, it was like Dairy Queen's strawberry sundae.

Strawberry was my favourite as well and was disappointed when they discontinued it a few years ago. Dairy Queen just isn't the same.

No shortage of people who miss Strawberry. Add me to the list. I have no idea why they got rid of it.

It's good you did! I'm not on twitter either. I came across the message on google by accident looking for a date for when the strawberry syrup was discontinued. lol
