Good deal especially for Christmas.

Have you been to Cuba before?

...Memories is owned by Sunwing so they try to keep a more "Canadian" level of quality and service.

I've been to memories varadero . The resort itself wasn't bad but a few things noted
A) the safety deposit box was broken, made a request to fix it but they never showed up. Nothing was stolen or anything
B) the beds were not the best, didn't sleep well. Also they didn't change the sheets/restock the fridge until I left them a note on the 3rd day
C) food was not the greatest but thats Cuba

I take it you were one of the people who got sick down there?

Norovirus and stomach bugs happen everywhere- on planes, in hotels (St Maarten had a bad one a few years ago and I can list a few true 5* in the Caribbean where this has occurred as well) & on cruise ships. They spread quickly and it takes a lot of efforts to control it. It is not something exclusive to Cuba or Memories resorts.

Just came back from Flamenco....was decent...food was acceptable considering the horror stories you read about the food....Was disappointed with the beach due mostly to the damage from the Hurricane..bring water shoes or the coral will rip your feet apart...Pool areas were alright..Kids pool was virtually empty because the kids were all around the Pool Bar...never seen that before or allowed? Lots of little things that made you scratch your head about or ask...Overall what we paid $1400 for the 2 of us...would i go back ? Ummm No ...The wife and I do cruises and this was an eye-opener

That's why I don't go to Cuba- I did a short stay in Havana a few years ago (because I was interested in the culture and history) but Cuba is not for me. I used to prefer cruising (12 sailings on Royal and 3 on Celebrity- have also tried Carnival and NCL).

Don't let this turn you off from AI resorts- because honestly anything in Cuba does not hold a candle to resorts elsewhere. I prefer adults only: Secret's the Vine (Cancun), El Dorado Maroma (Mayan Riv), Royal Playa del Carmen (Mexico), Paradisus La Perla (Playa del Carmen, Sun Palace (Cancun)- all fabulous and on par with the cruising experience in terms of luxury, food quality and service. Also LOVE the Hard Rock in Punta Cana- not adults only but caters to adults with adults only pools and such. I've also been to several Sandals but nothing to really write home about.

Cuba is cheap and cheerful and one day when it is Americanized the standards will be on par with over destinations in the Caribbean. Sad but true. I know they have some beautiful beaches and Havana is really interesting but other then that... meh.

Im going there Nov 6 for a week, same area as Royalton Cayo Santa Maria, which had a nice beach, and from the pics the Warwick beach looks similar

I don't find any of the Memories resorts in Cuba to be comparable to ones elsewhere (Bahamas, Punta Cana). Cuba is hit and miss. Either you are the type of person that loves it or hates it. If you are okay with mediocre food and service and usually older or run down accommodations then you will enjoy your trip. Remember that you get what you pay for. If a vacation to Cuba is $1400 over Xmas where as a trip elsewhere is $2400 there is a reason, and that reason is because the accommodations cannot be compared.

Being in the travel industry and having travelled a lot over the years I prefer to do Cuba during off season when the prices are much lower. If I'm going to spend more than $1000 per person I'd rather look elsewhere.

What would you recommend for an AI in mid February ~$5k? 2 adults + 3 kids.

TIA
