[Memory Express] WD Black 1TB SN750 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD - $169.99

Image
The Western Digital SN750 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD is still available to backorder from Memory Express at $169.99 plus 8.99 shipping until Dec 31st. For all those that ordered machines the past Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas and Boxing Day week this is one of the best upgrades you can make.

Memory Express $169.99 + 8.99 shipping, backorders accepted (may come back in stock before the sale ends on Dec 31):
https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX75359

For those that missed this sale at $169 last month this is the second best price it has been in over a year.

By the way: you don't want the heatsink version... heatsinks are not good for M.2 SSD drives outside of the controller chip itself. Just use a bit of inexpensive thermal pad on the controller for optimal M.2 SSD use, heat and performance.

Difficult to justify buying this if there is any chance to shoehorn a regular size SSD drive into one's contraption...

Not sure what you mean. What do you consider a "regular size SSD"? If you basically use your system for web browsing and pedestrian office / business use I see your point. Anything more and you need a large, fast SSD drive.

I think he means regular sized as in 2.5", not the capacity.

Thanks. But that would make less sense, unfortunately. A 2.5" drive is considerably slower and considerably more expensive GB for GB when comparing most drives.

I agree. The Phison E12 based P34A80 is pretty comparable and slightly less expensive than this sale but this WD_Black is the second best drive on the market for Gen 3 x 4 behind only the 970 Evo Plus. Normally the price differential isn't worth the outlay for this WD or Samsung drive but at this price it's an excellent choice.

Thx OP and others. I've been holding out for this drive since it's single sided and fits in the Y540.

That and the P34A80 are identical drives so keep an eye on both (currently within $1 of each other all-in at $161-162). They are excellent across the board if you want to save a few dollars but this WD_Black is the better drive overall, albeit at a $40 all-in premium here with BC taxes. I'd personally go for the WD_Black but that's wholly because I like that it is slightly faster across the board (and sustains like few other drives), is single sided if I want to swap it to another system later that needs it, can be cooled easier and sips power compared to most other drives, extending battery life somewhat in comparison. Flick a coin between the two, really, depending on those strengths and cost weaknesses. I wouldn't pay any more of a premium for the WD or Evo but this price makes it a tough decision.

Easily this, the SX8800 is one of the more lower end TLC drives on the market (still a better drive than QLC) due to it's mediocre performing controller. Of course that was much cheaper so it depends on use case,

Aaannnd, it's gone (online, at least - there is still some stock in local stores in Calgary, etc). Congrats to those who picked this up at this great price.

For those who still want this great single sided drive it's still in stock at the moment and available for $189.99 plus $6.99 shipping at NewEgg.ca:

It's still on Amazon prime for $189.99 but it's in back order so it doesn't show as the first option. You need to click other options and select the wd black 1tb nvme on prime. Last I checked it would ship Jan 2nd or 8th.

Price dropped to $179.99 just now. I'm doing a price credit now via live chat.
