I just got myself a 4 bay Synology 918+.
My favourite features are the Synology Hybrid Raid, expandable RAM,expandable SSD, Plex hardware transcoding, and Cloud Sync that works with OneDrive Business (5TB accounts are available for cheap on eBay).

I feel that I am quite future proof with this NAS box.

So far so very good!

Installed today Synology Nas ds218. Easy configuration, very quiet. Good entry level NAS. Good price.. Just bought 4to for 129! Doh!

dayum...it might be time to upgrade my 4 drive synology from 3tb

hmm what is the upgrade path actually to increase size overall? Do I add 8tb drives to a 3tb system one by one letting it rebuild each and then on the 4th the size will increase?

it will depend on your raid setup. Usually it will be smallest hdd in your case 3tb. I know for sure for raid 1, it will be always be the smallest size.

ok thanks. I believe I just used Synology's Hybrid.

I have the 415+ and I think I might get a 918+ from the other thread for it's better h265 support and horsepower. ...but now I'm almost at $1600 with drives for loading up rfd on a tuesday night lol

Check this guide as you may be stuck to the 16tb max volumes. you can have multiple volumes but i personally like single volume accross a raid.
