[Memory Express] Western Digital 8TB Red Plus CMR WD80EFBX $189.99 (2021 Black Friday price)

https://www.facebook.com/memoryexpress/ ... 8785106780

As per their FB post, they have special this week on WD80EFBX.
Their website shows $219.99 but confirmed with store, it's $189.99 in-store or Online.
$189.99 was last Black Friday price.

I would be interested to get a couple if they are $190, but how to get it at that price? The FB page does not show a price, and the site shows $220, so definitely cannot order it online for pickup at $190.

my best guess is it will be at the right price when you go to pick up?
I know for their ISPU orders, you can pay when you pick up, not upfront.

This is why I hate all these Canadian retailers and why Amazon almost always gets my business. If they are going to give a certain price for an item. Make it available for both in store AND online!

they're setting it at a certain price not for your benefit. but to lure you in store so you'll buy something at MSRP.

Yeah, not going to do that. The price on my receipt/order (however you want to call it) has to match what I pay in store. I still don't understand how you got to the $190 price without calling them and finding the process.

Cannot call the "local" (which is still 45 minutes away) store until at least 5 PM. If the price was online, the order would have been placed already.

I had a high opinion of ME, shenanigans like this manage to bring them closer to Canada Computers. See the way how CC dealt with these "too low to advertise" prices: put a coupon on the product. I bought the 5800x for $430 with a $30 coupon, making it $400. Placed an online order, picked it up a couple of days later.
Everyone else was advertising what I suppose AMD wanted, $430.

Right, but not sure how that strategy works for stores like ME or Best Buy.

I understand it working for Walmart and grocery stores, where if I am in for a $10 thingamajig, I may purchase a $2 doodle, but for ME or BB, it's not like I am there to spend $500 on HDDs and I say "oh, they have a motherboard on sale, let me get that as well", or "that OLED TV is fine, let's get it".
I may impulse buy an USB stick, but they won't make much from that.

yea yea but you're not the average person just by virtue of being on this site you're a little smarter at saving money than the average joe.

just think about how dumb the average person is... then realize half the people are dumber than that.

and sometimes it's not about being dumb, it's about being rich enough or not having time/patience to go shop around and if that OLED or mobo you said is in stock they'll just get it while they're here.

anyways i'm sure you knew all this so i dont need to mansplain it and insult your intelligence. i too hate some of these companies and their pricing discrepancies though.

Amazon has the 4tb Red Plus for $94.99 Currently. I do need more space so I'd rather get this one then buy 2 4tb ones. The price is the same if you just wanted 8TB of storage.

I actually almost bought the normal reds for $83.99, but luckily I decided to read the reviews and saw that those ones were SMR and I needed to buy the plus for CMR.

Amazon Also has the 4tb blues for $76.99, if you just wanted something to backup photos and music.

I already have 2x 8 TB WD Blacks from the infamous WD sale, and I need two more drives to build a(nother) NAS with RAID-Z2. I won't be using SMR, 5400 rpm or anything lower than 8 TB, but thanks.

If you don't use these drives for NAS, if you don't care that much about reliability (I don't have data to show that NAS drives are more reliable than desktop drives, so I will make an assumption here), I would go with normal desktop drives. I do backups on HDDs in a toaster, the disk is used for 30 minutes per week, so my "normal" backups can go on desktop drives, but I have other requirements (non stop usage, running VMs) for the NAS.

I saw many sales on Hard Drives, but I always thought meh I don't think I could ever fill up 14tb of space, plus there was all this talk of SMR, CMR, Helium, 3v mod, blah blah and I couldn't make much sense of it at the time.

Lol a 3770K just doesn't cut it for premiere pro so I've gotten lazy and backlogged on projects.... Now I'm thinking to get a NAS and a few drives so I don't have to worry about losing data until I upgrade my PC or find time to sort through and work on the stuff I wanted to. Lol, but I saw NAS are about half the cost of the build I want to make... so now I'm thinking of just building the thing and turning my old PC into a NAS (Linus did a video on that recently)... If only I could stay up long enough for a best buy drop!

edit
Dang you guys killed those 4tb reds and blues on Amazon. Price went up to $133 and $119 Face With Tears Of JoyFace With Tears Of JoyFace With Tears Of Joy.
