"I don't think taxpayer interests would be served by those proposals," Whalen said. "The concern has to be that there are public dollars involved."

Does CBC even fact check anymore? Who needs context when juicy quotes like this will be enough to rile up all the right wing dwellers of the comment section?

Anyway, CP will need to convert to electric eventually but they certainly don't need to be put in change of creating free public charging stations. Leave that responsibility to gas stations where it can be properly monetized and maintained.

I bet if CP got behind banking but said it'd be non-unionized (as most banks are I believe?) the union would be crying foul at the loss of dues. Just another self serving cash grab, I'd never trust CP with my money.

Without trying to come off as a prejudiced asshole, the areas they'd be operating in aren't high value clients. They're not going to be holding large balances so all their loans (which are extremely high risk) would need to come out of a float provided by Canada Post to cover all the cheque cashing and payday loans. That's a huge overhead requiring a good stash of money being held in the office, probably just asking to be robbed (either at gunpoint or by its employees). Banks literally make money by lending person A's money to person B. In this case, there would be no person A. Few people up north or in rural communities have any investments they'd transfer to Canada Post, at most you'd have a few people with a couple thousand dollars in their savings accounts.

There's a reason banks have pulled out of these rural communities.

Literally no.

In theory yes, but there is a thing called fractional reserve banking, which, depending on the country and even the institution, banks etc only have a requirement to hold approx 10% cash compared to their outgoing loans. One of the reasons banks can make ridiculous amounts of money.

I want that route.

The idea of talking with seniors is nice too!

Notice how the reporter can barely keep up... just like those chumps that think our job is a breeze

I remember 4-5years ago the supervisor was suppose to follow the LC for 1/3 of routes. It was my day. LOL. He was a large man. He was suppose to do the stairs etc but all i saw him was standing on the sidewalk lol. And he never stayed for the whole section.

they just announced it last week at our station. i'm not sure why as we literally JUST went through restructure (start picking routes next week), and they don't even have a definite timetable for when it's going into implementation. i feel like they're just fear mongering - typical
What area are you at? If you don't mind telling? We are going to have ours this summer at GTA, but never heard of night sorts yet.

I remember being "audited" by my supervisor a couple years ago. He drove around in a stepvan, hopped out at one call on the corner, checked the flyers, and drove off. They're supposed to check 50 calls at a time.

Makes you wonder how accurate those admail stats they have for "non-delivery" actually are when they're coming from supervisors that don't actually do their jobs and whose bonuses depend on them. Hmmm...

Did you scan your Flyers?

Interesting how that's the most important question of the day.
Imagine a corporation that cared more about customer service than keeping the admail numbers up!

While I'm generally on the government's side re: legislation, I think we'd all be in a much better position if they did a serious reshuffle of upper management when they took power and gave the corp some direction, instead of letting it bob around aimlessly for the last four years, waiting for a Con government to resume the Chopra plan.

I'm just amazed they stopped doing PT conversions.

How about some parcel lockers? That's not CMB conversion dependent.

The moment parcel volumes increase enough to gain walks from restructures is the moment they'll stop doing them. This corporation is shady af.

Got a call today and low and behold, I am down with the count, sick. I turned it down, and then it called me back again, and I turned it down again, and then after navigating the crappy menu system of Eclipse, I heard an option to turn it down for the entire day, for which I did.

I imagine I am going to have multiple strikes against me, but if that is the case, I am going to argue it was for the same day and it was due to me not being familiar with the system.....they really do bury that option of pressing 9 for no more calls for that day.

Hope to be better tomorrow, and back at it.

Judging by the system calling me over and over again, I bet they were desperate for bodies today.

How was your guys' day today? Did any of you in Ontario just do parcels and colour section?

Just as I predicted, you got a call. I should be a fortune teller.

Did scannables and 2/3 of my walk was easy actually with no wind. Home at 2.

You'll be fine, they need reliable people and their more rare than you realize.

Don't go to work sick if you value the health of other people as well as yourself.

I thought about that, and I kept my distance, but after being benched for two weeks, I needed the hours. Us terms sometimes have to take what is offered or risk too many strikes during our probation.

If I was FT, I'd be calling in sick for sure, no question about it.

Edit: So I was called in to take 1/3 of one walk, 1/3 of another walk, and overflow parcels for a third walk. After seeing the route owner behind me a few times on the first walk, I asked him if it would make more sense if the Supervisors had me take 1/3 of his walk including what was brought back yesterday coupled with todays mail? I mean, why have two carriers covering the same portion of the walk. It's redundant and it looks dumb. Instead, they simply have me take out what was brought back yesterday, even if it means doubling-up on a section with another carrier.

It makes sense, which is why it doesn't happen unless the carrier and his supervisor are adults. Welcome to the unionized playground of Canada Post.
