Looks good! Still not backwards compatability though, which kinda sucks.

Buy a cheap PS2 with the savings and there's your backwards compatibility.

You'd think this was the second coming the number of posts we're seeing about it... the news is almost 24 hours old and people still think it's worth posting again, because RFDers are known for being the last people to learn of deals + price changes.

The Slim consumes around 30% less power, weighs 30% less, but is less aesthetically pleasing IMO as it has a matte finish and looks cheaper. If you have a noisy system, or want to save on energy usage then it might be worthwhile to get a slim replacement or to choose the slim model over the other model currently sold in stores. It does have a larger hard dive by default but it is possible to upgrade the hard drive on any model by swapping it out with a standard laptop hard drive.

The original launch Playstation 3 has 4 USB ports, card reader slots, and internal Playstation 2 backwards compatibility (which was removed from all Playstation 3 models from late 2007 onwards).

The 2008 to present PS3 models had only 2 USB ports, no card readers, and no Playstation 2 compatibility just like the slim model.

I wonder if Sony blu-ray players will come down also. Why buy a blu-ray player when you can get a game unit/player for almost the same price now.

The new PS3 do have some BW compatibility with PS2 and PSX games but done via software emulation.

Anyone know how to change the fan on an first generation PS3? Mine is still quiet, but am just curious on whether anyone has had any experience with that?

Very true - I also read that the PS3 BR player is more advanced then the other BR players out there, and for the same price you not getting the PS3 it is a crime... BR, amazing gaming machine, internet connection, wireless features, etc, etc...

It is a win for anyone looking for a BR - they get so much for just $300!
