Did a quick search and didn't see this posted up yet:

Shoppers is having their next points event on February 21 and 22 (Sat and Sun) -
This time there is a choice between getting 15X the points or 15% percent off when you spend over $50.

Small print mentions the discount is on ***almost all regular price items.

The rest of the small print:
Discount or points must be chosen at the beginning of the transaction.*Offers valid on the purchase total of eligible products after discounts and redemptions and before taxes with a valid Shoppers Optimum Card

- If you spend $50 at 15x points you get 7500 points
- 7500 points is equal to $11.25 bonus redemption at 75000 points for $200

- During a normal 20x event you will get 10000 points for $50
- 10000 points is equal to $15 on a bonus redemption at 75000 points for $200

- $50-15%=$7.50 off

You're better off waiting on a 20x event if you can maximize the points, but if you're a casual collector or don't collect at all, this is a good deal.

I'll buy some household items at 15% off but not big ticket items.

Thanks OP.

This is decent logic. But my thoughts are that if something is on sale NOW, then 15x the points on that item may be better then 20x the points on the same item not on sale. However, you could always argue that when it is 20x the points, there will probably be something comparable on sale. But you never know.

15x may be great, guess i'll have to wait and see the flyer.

If you select the 15% off, make sure the items, that you are buying, are not on sale. 15% off applies to the regular priced item only.

If I have 75 000 pts and I would like to purchase a Wii at $280. Can I have 15% off 280 - $150 and get points for the balance of the item?

280 + tax = ~$320 - 15% = ~ $280

$280 - 150 = 130$

Would I get my points 1x on the $130 ???

Should I wait for a 20x event?

No one, or the other, not both.

Wait to 20X points with bouns redeem event.

280 + tax = ~ $320
$320 - $200 = $120
$120 * 10 * 20 = 24000 points = ~ $60 during 75000 = $200

So the best result is spend $60 to get a Wii :cheesygri

Redeem points you can do anytime and can combine with either 15x Points or 15% Discount.

$270 - 15% = ~ $230 x 1.xx for Taxes - $150 = Final Cost

Or you can do $270 and get 15x Points.

Of course but that is kinda rare. Probably only 1 time a year if that.

I got somewhat lucky myself and got a day where they had $200 Redemption and 15x Points...

And no you only get points on the base value and not taxes so it would be 790 Points x 20x = 15800. You can still get an extra 1200 Points is you pay off that balance with a SDM GC though. That is assuming the Wii is 279.99 at Shoppers now? I thought it was 269.99...

Can I stack points to get more cash? Let say I have 160 000 pts.

I've been waiting for a 75000 ->200$ (on regular item not only on cosmetic) event and Its not coming that often. I don't know if a lot of people is redeeming their points to get a Wii in those event because honestly, its hard to spend $150-200 at sdm.

A cosmetic event is actually valid because the cash registers at SDM don't discriminate on what you buy. It's actually programed into the system to simply redeem for $200 on those 2 days..

It's only is the CSR's let you redeem.

The past recent cosmetic event I totally only bought Wii Accessories and still got $200 oh yeah I bought a mentos candy to bring the total to over $200 before tax, but yeah no cosmetics.

And as well 1 redemption per transaction so the max is 75000 Points in 1 go. so you still have to pay for part of the Wii out of pocket.
