Why would they penalize those of us actually in Thunder Bay?
Those of you in Tbay with a Tbay postal code have nothing to worry about.

Yeah, I'm not worried. I just didn't understand that comment.

Did you get the plan over the online chat? If so for some reason thats the only plan they are able to put on the account. I also encountered a similar problem yesterday and called in today to get the proper plan.

That's the old version of the plan -- get it corrected.

Why are people switching to a 3-year agreement? To get new hardware?

If you're able to get this deal with M2M, why not stick with that? Plus it's cheaper too.

And here are the steps I'll be taking today to get in on this deal (I have my own device), so can someone confirm if I'm doing the right thing?

1. Buy $5 Bell simcard from BestBuy/FutureShop
2. Get set up with any M2M plan with Bell
3. Ask for a Thunder Bay phone number
4. Set up online account
5. Go on Livechat and ask to change address to a Thunder Bay one
6. Log out of everything
7. Call in to Customer Service and ask for the Thunder Bay plan ($45 M2M)
8. (OPTIONAL) Go on Livechat again and change address back
9. Profit?!!?

Well if you can get a Note 2 for $0 when you sign a contract then it works out to the following:

$50 x 1.13 = $56.50
$45 x 1.13 = $50.85

The difference is $5.65 per month. Multiply that by 36 months and that comes out to $203.4.

So basically for $203.4 you can get a Note 2 but you will be in a contract for 3 years.

Some people value being off-contract

While I don't think I'll move off this plan anytime soon, I've moved between 4 carriers in 3 years and 2 of which I thought I wouldn't port out from so I like to keep my options open and not be tied down in the wireless space.

Yeah, for the hardware. I guess people figure this is as good as it will get for the next three years.

Looong-time Rogers customer did new activation on Bell last nite at Costco to take advantage of $150 in gift cards. Took Note 2 for $99 + extended 2 yr warranty for $49 (will get that back in Costco gift cards after 3 yrs if warranty not used). Did live chat to change the address to TB this morning. Live chat couldn't change plan to TB50 so called in. The plan will be active tomorrow morning (new billing cycle). I hope I am not going to loose free Detroit & Port Huron roaming promo after switch to TB50. Thanks OP! Now have to port my rogers' number but will wait until my plan is active. I guess there are now current incentives for porting the number to Bell?
FYI the deal at Costco now is $50 with $200 in gift cards... :D
