Price error? Cause choosing the 8gb option is more expensive at $1679....

Also any way to get this cheaper via edu discount?

No not a price error. I've seen ms do this before. Most likely they have too much stock of the 16GB ram model and are trying to get rid of it. And no edu discount can't stack on top of the item if it's already on sale. Ebates is 5℅ on surface devices right now so that'll help a bit in guess.

I saw a surface pro 4 in costco...not sure I would really want a tablet with such a large screen. I suppose you get used to it. It just seems a bit cumbersome. I guess I have to keep in mind this is a real computer but the Samsung windows tablet form factor sure is nice even if it is far less powerful

According to the general consensus of this forums is this a good deal?
I've been looking at getting a new laptop and it is appealing that this device is both a laptop and a tablet but can also double as a desktop using the dock.

I was all over this. But no sim slot? That's a deal breaker for me.

I am waiting for Pro 5 - USB-C, better battery life, Kaby Lake
However, PC Advisor said that an October event from Microsoft might not be possible. In fact, the Surface Pro 5 could be pushed towards the early parts of 2017. Intel's Kaby Lake processor and Windows 10 Redstone 2 that are expected to be in the next Surface Pro have not been shipped yet, which means that the next Surface devices might still be in progress.

Why would this be down-voted? Seems like a decent deal.

Although I think this is an OK deal the price becomes 1749 fairly quick once you add the keyboard type cover. Can't really see buying one of these without that. Black Friday only a couple months away. Think I'll wait a bit to see if these come down any further.

It's a specific mid-tier model (not across all Surface's) for a product that is getting a refresh within the next few months. It's also still hiding a 150 dollar cost for the keyboard, though that is a criticism of Surface's in general. Finally, the percentage savings is roughly ~17%, which would be warm at best.

The keyboard point is fair, but it wasn't mentioned in the thread for a long time and being downvoted well before then. I don't downvote deals for being "warm" rather than hot. How do we expect people to want to contribute to the site if we do that? I wish everyone who downvoted would provide their reasoning like you did.

For drawing/art purposes, (NOT for taking notes), which is better/more responsive, apple pencil on ipad pro, or the surface pen on surface 4?

Apple pencil is better for drawing.

I ended up getting this deal but for some reason Microsoft has not shipped the device yet.

I've contacted Microsoft support and have gotten misleading information so far. It says 7 business days for delivery and tomorrow is the last day to fit in that frame.
The Fedex number was created on September 30(The same day I bought the device) but the device has not left the Microsoft warehouse yet.

Is that typical of Microsoft store?? You don't pay for fast shipping and they ship it on the last day??
