[Microsoft Store] EVOO 12.5” laptop - $135

I am looking for a cheap laptop for my 7 year old to check her weekly assignments on MS Teams and two came showed up while browsing.

I figure for what it’s worth, it should be enough to turn on, log on to MS Teams, print off her weekly work, and work on her typing skills.

It’s not a powerhouse and I am not computer expert and fully expect some “super helpful” comments. I would think for the specs the she could watch her music instructor on YouTube, download a word document, and upload a photo of her pictures or math sheets.

I also see they have another one for 200 and I may go that route because it seems to have a few more bells and whistles and I won’t cry when my kid drops it or the school year is done.

The other laptop...

Please feel to suggest other options

Get the $209 one with 4GB of RAM. 2GB will cripple the thing to the point that it's barely functional.

The $209 one also seems to have a better processor (I think it's supposed to say N4000, not N400 as mentioned in the specs)

Online pages seem to suggest this has 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB.

...but...what's said in this video seems to apply to this laptop to some degree:

Would this be better than buying a Chromebook?

This might still be heresy.

Buy yourself a used eBay Laptop. I have a whole thread about them in 'Computers and Electronics'.

$200 + tax for a solid i5 4th Gen 8GB 120/240Gb SSD at 12" or 14". These older laptops also come with replaceable batteries.

Controversial, but loaded with truth.

Edit: Stepped away (COVID business stuff) and this post blew up. Apologies, here's the link.

I have the exact same hw spec as a chromebook.
It's decent, but not spectacular.
So if they slap on a win10 in that....I'll think it'll crawl.
Not to mention you won't have much space to work with after the OS with that 32GB.

Just my 2c @32gb you are gonna pull your hair out every time Microsoft releases a big feature update, you will need to often time reinstall windows 10 from scratch building a bootable usb (easy enough but pain in the b***), many errors using a usb drive to do feature update. My experience with basic dells and Lenovo’s with 32GB storage. MS releases feature update usually 1-2 a year..

I would recommend the Lenovo 14w when I grabbed it on sale at $169...
But if you had to decide on either of the two, the $209 will be better.

- A larger screen and it's a touch screen too!
- More ram for faster processing info to CPU!
- Oh and the CPU is slightly faster as well

The only thing is the 32G storage, Windows will take up the bulk of it.
You can get some USB Flash for storage of pictures/videos, etc though.

BTW, what grade is the 7-year-old in? Grade 2?
Man, we never had these when we grew up, the younger generation are all so techno-savvy now!!

Even 4GB RAM is barely enough these days if you use chrome. I have 10 tabs open right now, mostly text, and no videos for sure. Chrome is taking up 1.25GB RAM.
Be a nice person and enjoy life

Same experience. 64gb fine, 32gb not enough.
