9750H+1650 is a really good combo for <$1000. Add a 8GB stick of ram for ~$50 and you've got a nice budget gaming laptop. The exact same model is on sale on Microsoft's USA site for $789usd ($1050 CAD)

Damn good deal. Even a i5-9300H with a 256Gb SSD would have been good at this price but an i7-9750H with 500Gb SSD is awesome.
This model also has the USB-C port that the Asus FX lacks

It's not my thing, but if I were I would've already bought by now.

Back in my day we had 30hz and rolled with it.

I don't think sub-$1000 is possible with an OP build plus high Hz display. Life isn't that amazing in 2019.
My CRT as a kid could hit 100hz...

Probably not but you might be able to find something just above $1000 that is possible. All depends on what you are looking for I suppose. Specs wise this is great value but 60hz is a deal breaker for a lot of gamers (at least PC gamers since console gamers can’t complain about 60hz lol). There have being multiple deals between $1100-$1300 (all sold out by now i imagine) that would push over 100 FPS in quite a few games. Some of those deals should restock by Monday or at least sometime between now and boxing week.

Is this 60 hz or 144 Hz? Lenovo site says:
15.6” FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS anti-glare 60Hz 45% color gamut 250 nits
15.6” FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS anti-glare 60Hz 72% color gamut 300 nits
15.6” FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS anti-glare 144Hz 72% color gamut 300 nits

Fair, quite possible. That price delta bites for some.

It should be but note the card is 1650. Don’t confuse it with 1660 or 1060 machines because that card is quite a bit slower. 1660 is about 50% faster (depends on game), which is one reason this pre built is using a 60hz display (since it wouldn’t really take advantage of 120hz/144hz on most modern games).
