[Microsoft Store] MSI GS65 Stealth Thin - GTX 1060 - $ 1,549

Anyone in the market for a thin and light gaming laptop should take a look at this.

Great price. Admittedly, this is last year's model so the 1060 is now replaced by the 2060. But Microsoft Store is the only outlet offering such a deep discount on this product.

Also, it seems that the new line of GS65s with the 2060 are actually not as thin and light as the prior generation.

I think this is a pretty hot deal. Or am I crazy?

Been eyeing this deal for awhile but was too lazy to make the post. I think this is a pretty solid deal in terms of what you're getting, as thin and light laptops with these specs rarely ever go cheaper. (especially in Canada)
I believe this price is also lower than its price on Microsoft's Pi Day.

Yup. Likelihood is that with 2060 now here, 1060s will be phased out when fully sold out.

One benefit of GS65s are that the laptop opens a full 180 degrees, and MSI seems to the only gaming laptop manufacturer doing this.

FWIW, I had the GS65 before and I didn't like it. The build quality was not very good and it creaked a bit. I ended up exchanging it for the Razer Blade 15.
Brown ahead for Bure. Bure going in.. he scores! Pavel Bure has won it for the Vancouver Canucks! It's a triple overtime hat-trick for Vancouver!

It's a good deal.

Only thing that people have been talking about is how it's hard to upgrade the SSD/RAM without taking the entire MOBO out. And yes, it's very flimsy.

Lowest price elsewhere was at CC's Anniversary sale for like $1800.

Can you give us an example? This seems reasonable price. If it were the 1070 variant I would have jumped on it as it would be equivalent to 2060 performance. Cheapest I'vefpund the 2060 is around 2 grand.

The Lenovo y740 is around $1700 right now with EPP discount. Cheaper if you can get a student/military discount and ebates. It has the rtx 2060.

Got this for a hair under 1900 all in and its a great laptop. That price was for the Y740 RTX2060 model with the upgraded 512 SSD and 3 year on site warranty from Lenovo. Teacher discount (20%) and 9% ebates.

I would put the GS65 and Y740 to be equally average in build quality for a thin and light gaming laptop. They do not compare to my Dell XPS 15 for example if you want great build quality.

I bought one of these over the Lenovo. Only reason is Lenovo has the most annoying fan noise and battery is very poor @ 3 hours vs like 6-7 on this laptop. At least that's what I gather from reviews.

This one in the thread because it has Optimus. Lenovo fan is fine when gaming, annoying AF when web browsing. Just opening a tab makes it spin up, and as soon as its done loading its silent again.

I'm also in the dilemma between this laptop and Lenovo Y740. MSI pros are battery life and slightly thinner with better build I suppose. Y740 is equipped with RTX 2060 which should be good for another 2-3 years. Tough choice

Went with the Y740 17inch rtx2070mq myself.

It also helps that the Lenovo warranty is pretty good(onsite repair, accidental damage) and pretty cheap for 3 years.

The build quality in Lenovo's Y series is quite bad. I used to have one of their gaming laptops and the keyboard broke just a few years later. 2 years into ownership or something. This has never happened to me and I've owned numerous laptops. The touchpad is also unusable and I'm not sure if they ever improved it.

I'm only going to buy Thinkpads from Lenovo because of that experience. I hear the same complaints about their Y series from RFDers all the time.

MSI is probably superior to Alienware too? I'm actually quite surprised at how well my Alienware laptop is holding up. Purchased it in 2016 with the GTX 1070 for about $1200 all in. That includes the ram and SSD I added myself. One of my best deals and it looks like its still holding its value (though its definitely not thin like the MSI). Absolutely had no problems, it looks nice and the touchpad is amazing. I'm more than happy to buy another Alienware (surprising given how much I used to hate Dell) but I've always been curious about MSI. Edit: clarity
