Earlier thread. Trick is to firmly say NO to any extras.

As much as I hate these places, the price makes it hard to justify doing it at home.

When you go there for oil change the CSR will tell you that youe vehicle needed this:
1. Flash your brake fluid.
2. Change your transmission fluid they will even bring out a rug with a dark oil on it.
3. Clean youe brake or you need to change your brake
4. Change your filter
5. Wheel alignment and balancing.
Bill is

Are you saying Costco personally convinces you that you need a new BBQ grill because your old one is leaking?

Hey Costco's chicken is the best. Tasty and is actually a loss leader for Costco. They lose $40 mil a year selling those roast chickens for $7.99 in the US and Canada.

I am curious what percentage of the customers can pay $29.99 + tax with no other purchases.

Not worth the headache of hearing their upselling and messing with your car. PASS.

Not sure if anyone in this post actually been to a Midas. My experience with them, in multiple locations in GTA, has been pretty decent. They never asked me to do things I don't need.

I changed oil in one of these locations and they put a non standard filter. My regular mechanic said he had a hard time taking it off - so I skip these locations.

That's assuming you can leave the place only with an oil change. They'll say the car needs a lot more work done, and you may feel paranoid not giving into their up-sell. My mechanic charges a lot more for an oil change, but I trust his opinion when something really needs changing before the next check-up.

Non standard filter? Lol. Okay
Ya think maybe your regular mechanic was just pissed you went somewhere else for service and was trying to discourage that in the future?

Except that when you receive the kitchen they might've screwed your car up

This is the real purpose of these cheap oil changes.

To get you in the door, to upsell you services you may or may not need.

lol classic. not sure who's worse - midas or your regular mechanic.

I used to get my oil changed at Midas in unversity on my old car - never paid a penny more than what the oil change cost. They did try to sell me things a few times, but not often - I guess it depends on the location. I think in the winter its $50 with the tire rotation, and they used to put on my snows (already on wheels) for free, so definitely YMMV.
