Review:

The Mini 0806 is currently the newest offering in the Mini 080X series, utilizing the Ambarella A7 chipset capable of recording videos in resolutions up to 1296p (30fps). It has all the features you would expect from a dashcam including: auto start/stop, seamless loop recording, GPS data stamping, time stamping, motion detection, wide viewing angle, etc. The one of the first dash cams supporting dual (2x) microSD card slots, claiming to support a total of 256GB (128GB x 2).

The Mini 0806 has superb video recording capabilities in really high resolutions such as 2560x1080p (30fps, 21:9 aspect ratio) and 2304x1296p (30fps) -- or 1920x1080 (45fps) and 1280x720p (60fps), if you prefer higher frame rates.

Personally, I prefer discrete dashcams and this one fits the bill nicely. The stealth black body is small with plenty of ventilation holes for heat dissipation (known problem in earlier Mini 080X dashcams). The 1.5” LCD screen is handy for quick menu access, changing settings, camera positioning, video playback, etc. The LCD screen turns off after timed inactivity so not to distract you while driving -- there are 3 LED indicators denoting charging (red), recording (blue), and GPS (green).

At $119.99USD (or cheaper), I would definitely recommend the Mini 0806. It is the dashcam that does it all. Perfect form factor, great video quality, high resolution, tons of features, small (relatively?) price tag. The GPS module and CPL filter are not typically included with the Mini 0806, but ********’s listing includes these extras by default. The only improvement I’d wish to see in the Mini 0806 would be a capacitor, and better firmware updates (currently, there is a bug with parking guard and SD card slot switching).

Note: Although the specifications are similar to the Mini 0805, I have read on the forums that the Mini 0806 is designed/manufactured from a company separate from the creators of the Mini 0805 (and 0803, 0801 as well). Not entirely sure if this speaks to the superiority the Mini 0806, but it certainly does seem like a step up from the previous models in terms of quality and design. The Mini 0807, 0809 and 0901 are rumored to released in coming months -- however, those appear to be downgrades and targeted towards budget consumers.

Note2: Some reliability issues were noted with the first batch of the Mini 0806, supposedly addressed by the second batch. I believe mine was from the third batch (shipped May 11, 2015) and I haven't had any issues with my unit yet... plug-and-play out of the box, stock firmware, non-hardwired.

+1 and aye.

Also this dash cam looks interesting, but I am not sold on a dash cam having a screen on the back.

I prefer to type out my thoughts and opinions, as opposed to making a video. I'm not really a YouTuber.

I can answer any questions you may have regarding the Mini 0806 and how it compares with other cameras, I've owned a lot of them over the last 2 years:

*iTronics ITB-100HD
*Mobius B lens (w/ super capacitor mod)
DVR-047
Dome Z7
SJCAM SJ4000 Wifi
Amkov AMK5000 Wifi
Dazzne DZ-P2
Soocoo S60
*Xiaomi Yi
*Mini 0806
Dome GS98C (write up coming soon)

(I put a * for the units I think are worth keeping. Sold the rest.)

Would you choose the Mini0806 or the iTronics 1TB-100HD? I am debating between the two. Of course the iTronics is more difficult to find, but just wondering.

Any other online retailer besides ******** that sells the Mini0806?

Also how is ********'s return/refund/exchange policy should something go wrong with the unit? Or do we have to deal with Mini itself?

Does the Mini 0806 have a capacitor option? How do you think the battery will hold up in our summers? Car interiors get really hot these days.

For the past few months I have been contemplating on getting one to replace my Mobius. But there were issues with the first runs. If I decide to buy it, I would get it with the GPS Logger For $129.95. This is where I bought my Mobius almost 2 years ago.

Definitely. The Mini 0805 and 0806 are better than the G1W (and variants) in every way. If you're on a budget, the Mini 0805 is less than $70 and has most of the major features found in the Mini 0806.

My iTronics has been a reliable camera, but the hardware is getting outdated. The Ambarella A7 dashcams (like the Mini 0806) have better video quality, more features, reliable, and are much cheaper. Don't let the screen fool you for size -- it's a really small camera, about the same size as the iTronics and mobius.

If I had to choose between a Mini 0806 for $100+, or an iTronics for $200+ -- I'd choose the Mini 0806. I'd get a Mini 0806 for the rear too.

There are a ton of places to buy the Mini 0806 online, both locally and internationally. If there was an issue with the unit, you would probably have to deal with the retailer. Unless the unit is DOA, it's pretty tough to get warranty from international retailers. ******** happens to be the cheapest and I've had good experiences with ordering from them. They have a good presence on Dashcamtalk and a rep here on RFD as well.

Here's one from Canada:

Currently, no capacitor option for the Mini 0806 as mentioned in the review. If it did, it would be the perfect dashcam IMO.

The first two batches of the Mini 0806 had known issues. They are on the third batch onwards now, I don't think there will be any more problems.

I bought 3 dashcams from blackbox my car over the last 3 years for my car and my dad's car, nothing but good things to say about them.
Super easy to deal with when it came to warranty on my dashcam.
Have referred them to all my friends as well and they only have good things to say too

Is this a better choice than the ******** version of G1WC as front or rear cam replacement? Is capacitor version even possible given the formfactor?

Does the 0806 requires a different mount socket than the G1WC? then I may have to maintain two different mounting systems.

My G1WC with Samsung EVO 64GB has been performing well, should I stick with it or diversify?

Personally, I prefer the Mini 0806 but it depends on what you're looking for in a dashcam.

The Mini 0806 is much more discrete. It has better video quality up to 1296p 30fps. It uses it's own mounting system (tape mount with built in GPS). It can support up to 2 x 128GB microSD cards. It is, however, twice as expensive as the G1W cams though.

For me it's the capacitor. There's just too much complains about batteries dying across all manufacturers. Anything automotive just have higher operating requirement than regular consumer stuff and dead cam is not acceptable for most people.

It does look like the Mini 0806 is in the family of superior chipset i.e. the G90. I am trying to figure out what else that will justify for not having capacitor.

For example, the GPS, what can you do with it? some premium cams with GPS also came with other features such as so-called forward collision warning. The socket is probably ok, but then I would have just 1 degree of movement, up and down.

The A118C is probably more comparable to the 0806 than G1WC, correct?

Forward collision warning on a dash cam is an annoyance. It won't detect speed. It will just continue beeping when you come close to any car even at a red light.
