Mirror Moto G Power screen to LG TV?

I can mirror the screens of some of my Android phones and tablets to my LG TV screen using its built-in WiFi Direct/Miracast support (like my Samsung tablet screen), but not my Moto G Power phone screen. Lenono/Moto dismisses screen mirroring questions with the statement that only Google Chromecast is supported. I tried a few screen mirroring apps, but none of them seem to detect the TV. The Android WiFi Direct connection function on the phone does detect the TV and can connect to it, but offers no functionality - no screen mirroring, and not offered as a sharing option in any app. LG's own ThinQ app on the phone detects the TV and connects to it, offers "Screen Mirroring to TV" as an option, but clicking it goes to the Android Cast screen offering only Chromecast options.

Has anyone had any success with this? I'm beginning to think that the Moto G phones are crippled in this one respect.
