[Dollarama] Monster HDMI cables. Various models. YMMV

Price:
$4
Retailer:
Dollarama
More offers from Dollarama
Monster HDMI ultra gold HD cable 9 foot.
Monster High Speed 6 foot.
Monster HDMI with ethernet. 6 foot.

I don't know much about cables but people seemed happy about anything Monster brand at dollarama and I saw these. I didn't see another post about it and I put YMMV since its dollarama and stock is irregular and variable.

If I missed anything I'm supposed to have in post please let me know.

Thread Summary
Dollarama is selling three different models of Monster HDMI cable.

White rectangular boxed 6 foot HDMI cable with Ethernet (marketed as "High Speed")
White curve boxed 6 or 8 foot HDMI cable (marketed as "High Speed")
Gold curve boxed 9 foot HDMI cable with Ethernet (marketed as "Advanced High Speed")

HDMI 2.0 supports up to 18 Gbps bandwidth, for 4K 60 Hz with HDR. Out of the three Monster cables being sold at Dollarama, only the gold packaged one, which is marketed as an "Advanced High Speed" cable, is listed to meet this 18 Gbps specification. I have confirmed this gold boxed one works fine for 4K 60 Hz with HDR, from two different sources (a MacBook with 4K 60 Hz 10-bit dongle, and an Apple TV 4K).

Since it is also the longest one at 9 feet (vs 6 and 8 feet for the others) and works fine, and because it's the same $4 price as the others, this is the one I recommend buying.

I remember when Monster used to charge like $70 for an HDMI cable many years ago. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Going from like 7000% markup to a mere 400% markup. Now it's something I'd consider purchasing.

Honestly this should be a corporate success story/documentary............"Monster, how a company making cables with pennies managed to sell the same cables for nearly $100 each in their prime!"

Even more entertaining when someone tested Monster Cables vs a Coat Hanger.

I worked at futureshop and they played video "proving" the quality of their cables even though the video was sourced from a dvd(side by side comparison). Such absolute BS they tried to pass off

I remember this campaign and how they misled many people. Acting like other cables can be choppy and have issues. I never bought into this. A lot of people did though. Best buy, futureshop and others let them continue this scam while being a retailer for them.

To further put these claims to rest:

They lost a class action in the US relating to these claims.

So frankly they deserve to sell for $4 after all this history.

they were a scam with their pseudo science claims, but in the end the ones I bought at a steep discount were pretty well made. I had some monoprice ones which weren't tight at the connector and fell out whenever I moved my component cabinet but the monster ones were pretty tight and never had any dropouts in a 15 foot length.
RFD is not just about saving money, it's about the thrill of the hunt and not paying full price like Joe Shmoe did. This applies to everyday items as well as high end items that I don't really need.

By the looks of it, the same cable is at Best Buy for $70 preclearance. Who's brave enough to try a dollar store purchase and Best Buy refund without receipt 🤣
