More than 70,000 lawnmowers sold at Canadian Tire recalled due to fire

If you're like me and you picked up a cheap Certified brand electric lawn mower from Canadian Tire from 2019 - June 2021, you might want to check the model number. Two models in particular may catch fire and are subject to a recall.

Certified 10a 2-in-1 Electric mower, 14" 060-0739
Certified 12a 2-in-1 electric mower, 17" 060-0740

I'm going to see how they handle my case (lost the receipt). I'm not expecting a smooth process.

Hmm, looks like the one we have. But nothing even close to that price to replace it.

I just called their customer service line and was told to bring it back to any CT location.

Without the receipt the store may either provide a refund, store credit, or a replacement mower all depending on the location. They might also attempt a receipt look up in their system.

CT brands are garbage... they buy what were once decent brands and turn them to crap (NOMA. Paderno, Yardworks, Simoniz, etc.)...

NOMA has had so many recalls over the past few years.

Hoping they don't mess with Helly Hansen too much.

Just took my mower in. There was a guy in front of me with the same issue however they had a receipt and received a full refund. I shredded my receipt so they could only give me store credit (which can’t be used at the ct gas stations). Worse, it expires in 1 year.

Not very happy about this :(

Agree-- I bought an Eliminator battery back in 2019 and it came with 5 year warranty; it quit last fall and brought it back to CTC and they said no warranty without receipt-- apparently can't find anything on their system-- battery sticker says 2019 on it. They really don't care it seems any more!

Well I go back a long ways in thinking that I suppose. I admit it's been awhile. Maybe they were faking it from the start! lol

I do recall in the 80's when their auto-centre put the boots to me over a repair to my vehicle (I was stuck and couldn't do it myself as I was out of town)--so I agree the scamming side of CTC was happening back then!

if you used their credit card to pay for it, they can search the receipt with your triangle CC.

This might not be a bad thing if the credit was for more than you paid for it [very possible as this is CDN TIRE where regular price is usually very inflated and discounts large]

If the above is not the case and you paid full price....That's BS and I wouldn't have accepted that. At the very least I'd want NO EXPIRY. Alternatively, I'd go thru my credit card records and find the date of purchase...they can then ascertain the price as their system does log price changes/sale dates and prices.

Perhaps I'm the exception but I take pictures of basically everything that is electrical/mechanical/anything with a warranty....1 yr, 2 yrs, 5 yrs it doesn't matter. It's so easy to do why wouldn't ppl do this.

I recommend saving it in a folder on a cloud storage drive labelled as invoices or warranty. I do the same with owners manuals as it's way easier to find pretty much anything doing a simple search on my PC.

Pretty sure I paid regular price using proper CT gift cards, so no records. It's not a very large amount, $99, so it's the annoyance factor.

A year had passed so I shredded the receipt as it would have been out of warranty. Didn't consider a recall would take place.

No need to shred anything if it's in the cloud...just leave it there [receipts fade and are totally not legible]. I have PDF receipts for stuff from 2010 in my cloud storage. Storage costs on this is "NOTHING" [as Sargeant Shultz used to say]

Although higher quality brands do have recalls here and there, this is part of the reason why you buy higher end.

I'll be getting a Dewalt mower next year, assuming Dewalt is pretty high up there.

I just bought one of their drills, and a combo pack of a trimmer and leaf blower. The trimmer eats through everything with ease.

I remember I bought I think it was a Simoniz 1600PSI pressure washer from CT a couple years ago. Stored inside the first winter that I had it, the second I pulled the trigger on it on a nice day the following year, the internals exploded. CT wouldn't do anything.

We may be the exception, but you aren't alone.
I do the same.

I have original receipts and manuals filed away, but for a quick check of something this is so convenient.
Additionally (and this would apply to a mower), if there is a serial number plate or engine model plate, I take a photo before it get covered in grease/dirt, mounted to the rear, etc.
