"Most folks being laid off are making $14/hr"

Is statcan data bullshit?

"average wage for Canadian employees across the nation was $1,011.62 per week – which works out to just over $52,600 per year", but the researchers is saying most people that are laid off makes only $14/hour.

So would this imply that most people making $52k salaries don't get laid off?

I think the data implies the most affect industries _so far_ are retail and hospitality.

You can pull any relations from two stats and leave it to people to interpret.

An average is a terrible way to look at statistics especially with a large dataset.

You're looking at minimum wage workers to potentially software engineers or banking VPs who are technically and fairly, impacted by Covid 19. It's a silly way to average it out and draw a conclusion.

The ones making minimum wage are the highest risk, and less likely to recover if they are already financially stressed before Covid 19.
