The bank is a disaster, very bad reputation, do a search before you make a mistake like others made..

I have an account with them.
Nothing unusual. Just do the Internet banking, customer service through phone is not good. But who will call them.

If you need customer service it may not be in your interest to open an account.
I wanted to open an account. I gave them my personal info.
3 days later
They e-mailed me back saying my birthdate was wrong. Please send correct birthdate by mail. No mention of what documents they want.
I talked to them on the phone but could not understand what they wanted so just to do a follow up and clarification on what they wanted me to send, I emailed them
as to what certificate they wanted to verify my birthdate with.
4 days later they replied:
They e-mailed me back to fax them my correct birthdate. No fax number.
yet again I e-mailed them and asked them if my driver's licence would be good enough prove?
Waiting for the answer.
Before they contacted me about my birthdate, I sent a cheque to open an account and I asked them to send me back my cheque if I could not open an account and they haven't responded to that one.
I know one of the credit places has my birthdate off by a week, so they were just responding to that. I have opened credit cards and bank accounts and never had a problem. So I guess it is the luck of the draw as to which credit place that they check on.
So because of the language barrier i will not open an account with them.
They don't seem to know what I am asking and I don't understand what they want.

I posted this before, but FYI, here are some old threads about ICICI from the forum at Canadian Desi (a website that focuses on South Asian interests--ICICI is an Indian bank, after all).

ICICI bank in Tornto Star-- Thank God i didnt open an account with them..
ICICI Bank in Canada
ICICI Bank Canada or India.

BTW, I've had an account with ICICI for about 18 months and I personally haven't experienced any problems, although I've had no transactions with them for about a year (now that my money is at PCF).

Well, when they screw up you're forced to call them to try to get things sorted out. Of course, when they tell you they can't help you right now because the system is down, and ask you to call back tomorrow and you do only to be told the same thing again you really begin to wish you'd have kept your money under your matress or something instead.

When I was in the market for a new bank I did some research on them. They do have a very bad reputation and bad customer satisfaction.

I would recommend you look elsewhere.

I didnt have much in the account to begin with, so after a few months I decided to close the account. Maybe it's good that their service is bad because they closed my account and sent my closing balance 3x to my regular account! It was really nice of them to triple my money.

It's been over a year and they didn't contact me or try to correct their
mistake.

This was one of the most amusing entries I read in this forum. :cheesygri

Also, it looks like there're a lot of mixed feelings about ICICICICICI.

I was tempted by their high(er) interest rates but in light of existing issues, which I remember reading about before as well (so obviously they're not doing anything to rectify the situation) I think I'll hold off my decision to open an account with them.

I feel sometimes $100-200 of a difference doesn't really justify the annoyance and aggravation one might need to go through to do business with them.

I was stupid enough to ignore the bad reviews I saw here and elsewhere on the Internet and opened a USD Savings account with ICICI Bank in May. Now I'm paying the price:

1. After 2 weeks of waiting back in May and 3 calls to their absolutely useless CSRs I finally got the account opened and the initial $5 deposit credited to the account (the cheque itself was cleared about 5 days earlier);

2. Contrary to what I read in their welcoming package, the link to the external account was not set - had to call again and wait for 2 days;

3. This is where the worst part started. (Stupid, stupid, stupid me!!!) On July the 4th I initiated an online transfer of a very significant amount of money from my external linked account to ICICI.
The request was marked on their website as of July 5th. Time passed - nothing happened.
On July the 9th I see the money being debited from the external account and never appear at ICICI!!!
I called them on the 10th, was told "they are doing maintenance and can't see anything at the moment, please call back in 2 hours". Called later - maintenance had not finished.
Called on 11th - they supposedly must post the latest transactions after 10pm, please wait.
Surely enough, I checked out the account this morning (the 12th) - still nothing. Called them right away - was advised they opened a ticket and are going to investigate and asked to get back in 2 business days. NO F.U.C.K.I.N.G WAY!!!

Their 1-888 number is a call center in India with totally useless staff. The best they can do is "open a ticket" for ya and recommend to call again in 2 business days... Yeah, rrrright... Going to call the Toronto office after they open at 9am and not let them ******** me with stupid excuses anymore.

It's registered with CDIC, and checks out completely... I made several phone calls and did my research, it seems to be the (entirely legitimate) registered Canadian Bank branch of a rather large Indian Bank specializing in industrial loans and ivnestments.

Similar high interest "internet direct" savings account type as ING, PC, and the new HBC one.... but this one currently has a 'fixed' (not a promotion based interest rate prone to change any time soon) interest rate of 4.5% p.a., compounded monthly.

I imagine that as an Indian Bank, they can offer this interest rate due to their ability to invest in low-risk loans with all of the high growth sectors in India?

Anyhow, I am just posting to inquire as to whether anyone has this account, or any experiences with this bank. I opened my account on Monday, and it should be active by the end of this week - I suppose I will share my experience with them here as well (once I have experience to share, beyond the phone calls I have made thus far).

In particular, I am wondering if anyone can confirm that this bank's reference offer 'works' - whereby you can get $40 'for free' if you refer someone to them who ends up opening an account (the payout being split $20 for the refer-er, and $20 for the refer-ee). 'Free' being operative, because a $100 deposit is required...

Here is their website: http://www.icicibank.ca/
CDIC has them listed, and a phone call confirmed this: http://www.cdic.ca/1/3/1/7/index1.shtml

It is a legit bank and it even has a branch (may be an office because I never go in to check that out) close by where I live.

Yea lots of info on this site about ICICI ... we discussed everything to death about this bank so check those threads for your answers....And yes their referer works when i tried it with two friends (we all got it).....just a note, since u already signed up technically you can just use your Customer ID (that is given to you when u call in) and just go to "Forgot Password" and create a new one and presto you have instant access to your online account instead of waiting for the mail details of your temp pass and id to arrive...
