Thanks OP! Decent. Similar pricing at boxing. Sale comes up 2 to 3 times a year usually. I think Ring Subscription needed for video playback and extended warranty is nice for doorbell and other cameras. Easy set up. I find the floodlight a little disappointing only because where it is positioned garage area, my wifi signal not the greatest. Both Pro doorbell and battery doorbell camera video quality in general not that great, were in the 2020s ring. Its like your 2010 dash cam vibe, somewhat reliable. Ring is ideal with the ring alarm ecosystem with subscription.. subscriptiom is not worth just for the cameras. If ur not fully invested in ring yet, look for other camera eco systems if this a primary need. For me, alarm system was primary, camera and other stuff was secondary... no regrets here, just settled with video quality, can't say if other brands are any better.

Their customer service is pretty good and helpful with replacements for faulty units within warranty from exp...

Honesty I just want something that can keep an eye on my front porch and driveway that will alert me if someone walks in at night.
Mostly concerned with car theft.

We have an existing Ring Doorbell Pro, been looking at the Pro 2 but couldnt pull the trigger during Christmas/Black Friday. Not sure if others have upgraded but if you have please do share your thoughts.

Have an original Ring Pro installed since 2018 and it has survived the cold winters here in Ottawa.
Also installed a floodlight a few years ago and it’s also going strong despite being more exposed to the weather and sun compared to the doorbell camera.

I’m on the grandfather protest plus plan and have the lifetime replacement warranty should they fail.

Smart doorbell noob.
Is ring the way to go or is there a just as good nonsubscription based smart doorbell to go with?

Don't mind paying more for hardware but I've gotten burned by several companies..
Canary, Wink, and even Amazon..

Ring is owned by Amazon, take that for what’s it’s worth.

That’s the current pricing.
Should still qualify all products under the plan for lifetime warranty.

Does amazom not sell the smoke detector?

Also, has anyone looked into that new outdoor siren? Don't think it's available in Canada as yet.

I’m a smart doorbell noob too, but I guess you have to decide if you want a subscription based one or not. I don’t and so far Eufy looks like the way I’ll go

just on the phone with them, they said only 1 year warranty.
best they can do is 35% on purchase of a new device

How long have you been a protect plus customer?
I know they reduced coverage, but they were offering a grace period.

I upgraded from the Ring Pro to the Ring Pro 2 early January.

My Ring Pro started to act up, and unfortunately I wasn't subscribed to their top tier plan at the time so it wasn't covered under warranty. But they gave me a 35% off coupon, and the Ring Pro 2 was on sale on Ring.com in December, so I only paid $160 CAD tax included.

So far it's a significant upgrade. There is almost no lag time when someone presses the doorbell to announce on your devices and ring the mechanical chime. Also to pull up the live feed is instant, I haven't had any loading or buffering issues whatsoever.

It comes with a new Power transformer to connect to the mechanical chime and is a lot easier and cleaner to Install than the original Pro.

The video quality is also improved, better resolution to see details.

It has some other features like package detection which has been a hit or miss and "birds eye view" that lets you know what direction someone came from. Both sort of useless but depends on your layout.

It mounted with my previous Ring Pro wedge mount but the back is slightly curved so there's a slight gap, but no major issue.

They don't include extra faceplates anymore but they give you a coupon for one free faceplate.

What I'd do is try and see if Ring support gives you that added 35% off coupon and wait for the Pro 2 to go on sale again.

Wow 30 per month?? Do you mean per year? I remember when I first got the ring pro it was $3/month $30 for the year. Since then have upgraded to the montering service - have got a replacement for the door bell and chime for no charge, both were out of warranty - really happy with the service.

It's usually cheaper to order directly from Ring.com, especially if you have a subscription (or a friend who does) and can get the subscriber discount (10%, stacks). Shipping is free and fast, and even though they come from the US until today I've never paid duty or Canadian sales tax (my experience on ~ 5 prev orders). It's showing a ~5% estimated tax today though.

Eg the Stick Up Cam Battery is $89.99 on Amazon. With taxes and the battery fee, it's $103.59 (to BC)

It's $69.99 US from Ring.com, but as a subscriber it's $63 US + 3.15 estimated tax = 88.76 CAD (+ CC exchange fees).
