I have a question for those who track promotions in grocery stores.

We know that grocery got price inflation. Does it show on promotions (priced higher or less of them), or is it mostly on regular prices?

While inflation and shrinkflation are obvious on some items (eggs for example) , I would say 90% of items ON SALE have not seen unreasonable increases.

''Spend 20$ on any Royale products and receive 5$''

Btw, the 12pack Royale tissue for 5.88 is HOT, 5$ rebate or not.

Of course, promotions follow the trends. Otherwise, we would still have 1980's promotions.
It's easy to track; just look at old flyers.
Inflation at the grocery store is a lot higher than what Statistics Canada reports.
My guess is that it's a lot closer to 30% per year than the reported 3-4%.
There's the regular price, then the "regular" special price (that comes back regularly) and then there's a real special price (very rare).
Here's an example from Shoppers: PC Jam. The "regular" special price used to be 2/$7 now it's $4 each. That's a 15% increase.

Agreed, although I find SDM to be the worst when it comes to price fluctuations. They're capable of the best or the complete opposite. Here is one example : 2.99 Tropicana OJ for the 1.54L+ plastic jug. It is as low as it gets and you can stack with 20X offers etc. It'll be on ''sale'' another week for 3.99 without 20X bonus.
Another example is the ''Ristorante'' pizza at 2.99 stackable with 20X. Alternatively, the PC/house brand often goes on sale for less than 2.99, stackable with 20X AND get xxx PCO for XXX spent.

You are spot on with the regular special, special and rare. Honestly, you just learn to spot the real sales and just focus on buying those exclusively. Fortunately, there's always multiple protein sources and different vegetables on sale every week. I'll buy in bulk and freeze when its appropriate ( extra lean ground meat etc).

I forgot to mention in my previous post that (of course) I only buy at Shoppers if there's a 20 X the points or bonus redemption event that I can take advantage of. Otherwise, I abstain. Fortunately, there's one or the other almost every week.

Some products are more than 100% higher than just a few years ago. Example: Kraft Parmesan grated cheese. 250 g cans used to be available for $2.99 regularly when on special. Then it went to $4.99, $5.99, and more, more, more. Today, depending on where you shop, you could see a $9 or $10 regular price and be thankful if you find it on special for $6.99. Don't buy Bitcoins, buy Kraft parmesan. Lol!
