My Aeroplan miles expired due to lack of activity

I've been using Aeroplan for years and have booked many flights through it in the past. I don't shop anywhere in retail where I can gain Aeroplan miles. I just logged into my account and was shocked to see they expired my entire miles balance. I really think during a global pandemic where traveling is more or less impossible, they should be suspending their mile expiry policy. Like, read the room people.

You would have to have had no activity for over a year so some of that time was well before the global epidemic.

There are literally hundreds of places you can buy things from to keep your account active.

Also, as a result of COVID, they extended the allowable time before expiry. "Effective July 20, 2020 we are waiving the current expiry provisions. You will now have 18 months to keep your account active – six months longer than before. "

It is a loyalty reward program...loyalty by you as much as by Aeroplan :)

Lol, my miles were expired July 15th. Glad to see they are least extending the expiry provisions by a little bit.

I am giving them a call, but of course their hotline is crazy busy.

Go on their Facebook page and message them (not on the page but in message). You will most likely get a response quickly.

Fact is, You know they expire due to inactivity and since July of last year you never did anything to keep it active.

I called, spoke to supervisor, and they won't budge. Oh well, I'll know for next time.

It's pretty easy to keep your points active, just get a TD Aeroplan card (free first year) - https://tdaeroplan.com/

I just made a $1.29 purchase on the iTunes store to keep mine from expiring
Logged in through the Aeroplan e-store, went to iTunes site, which opened iTunes desktop app where I made the purchase. The process seems sure that something will go wrong and Aeroplan won't see it. I took a screen recording of the whole thing in case I need proof

simpler still (and without the credit hit).... do an askingcanadians survey... takes 15 minutes and they give you some nominal # of aeroplan points. and if you don't qualify for their survey, you get something like 5 points... still resets your aeroplan expiry date.

I think the easiest (only for those in Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Surrey, North Vancouver, New Westminster or Richmond), if you've got Novus for TV, internet or phone.
Just subscribe your monthly bill and it'll keep active every month.

If you had any flights refunded since March for COVID19, you can call Aeroplan with the PNR and they will reinstate and extend your miles.

Worked out fine, points posted already. Got 8 aeroplan points for $1.29 purchase and another year of validity, not bad.
