Mysterious Deposit into my TD Chequing Account

I logged into my TD Canada Trust accounts page and noticed a mysterious $20 deposit into my TD Canada Trust account. Not sure who deposited it to my account or what it is doing there but contacted TD Canada Trust via their internal messaging system and they informed me that it is an "e-transfer". Dohh!

I can tell that it is an "e-transfer" based on the description but my question to them was where it came from as I wasn't expecting any money nor do any automatic payees set up for my TD Canada Trust account excluding my personal email account (only for my Tangerine account has a few email addresses for automatic deposits). I checked my email account to see if I received any email notifying me of an e-transfer on/around that date but didn't receive anything.

While I wait for another reply from TD Canada Trust, any ideas how this could have been deposited into my account (or what it is about)?

Maybe its the $20 from the CRT class action?

Was going to say that. There's a Reddit thread about this.

Where's my $20? I don't know what the requirements were for being involved in this class action lawsuit. I probably don't qualify.

I received an Interac e-Transfer for the CRT class action, along with a message saying that at this time, they were only paying people who qualify for the minimum amount. I suppose it means that if you filed a claim for an amount higher than the minimum (for example for two devices or more), you may have to wait longer. See http://www.crtclassactioncanada.com/ for details.

I definitely do not qualify for that. Ah well, it was only $20.

I managed to figure out how to get the information about the Interac e-Transfer® on TD Canada Trust's website and it was the CRT class action lawsuit.

if I go to Interac e-Transfer® on the left hand side of my screen and I select "History", I then click on the "Money Received" tab, and it will show me the date, person/company that sent it, amount, and status (which in my case is "Audodeposit"). There is an arrow on the right of this and if I click on that, it will give more details.

My confusion was because in the Manage AutoDeposit, I thought that the email address there is the sender which will automatically be deposited so I put my own email address (because there are times when I might want to send myself money from a different financial institution). I thought it was similar to how I set up my Tangerine transfers from friends so that if I specify the email address and that person sends me a Tangerine transfer, it will automatically be deposited into my account without my intervention. I didn't realize that *ALL* Interac e-Transfers sent to that email address regardless of who sent it will be autodeposited without any email notification of the Interac e-Transfer.

I have since removed my email address from the Manage Audodeposit.

Even autodeposited E-Transfers will still send an email notification.

I didn't receive any email notification about this and I checked my spam/junk folder as well as made I wasn't using Microsoft's stupid Focused Inbox.

Weird, I did apply for this but I haven't received any transfer yet. The email that I would have used wouldn't be an automatic transfer, tho in this case, perhaps it's different.
Why can't we all just get along?

Actually, I stand corrected. I managed to find the email. It was put into subfolder via a rule and this folder isn't synchronized with my smartphone.
