Is that the cheapest place to get a .com domain?

Not entirely sure, it's been a while since I did my domain shopping, but a couple years ago I think it was Porkbun.com for .com domains and NameSilo for .ca domains.

There is a $1 coupon for NameSilo for first time buyer as well.

The best place to compare domain registrar prices is: https://tld-list.com/tld/com

For the best regular renewal prices (you can’t register a new domain), transfer your existing domain to CloudFlare: https://www.cloudflare.com/products/registrar/

Oddly enough, tld-list does not show CloudFlare prices in its comparison.

I was just about to transfer to namesilo. Thanks for the heads up on CloudFlare, didn't know they offered registrar services.

Any cheap or reliable email service to use with the domain?

I currently use free Zoho email service with my domain and it works really great but it feels if free then/im product - not sure how the Indian company is with privacy

FYI barring any promotional/discounted pricing (where registrars are selling at a loss), https://www.cloudflare.com/products/registrar/ will ALWAYS be the cheapest. They sell their domains at cost, so you don't ever have to worry about shopping around. Yes you can sometimes get 1-year registrations for cheaper, but consider that you may forget to transfer before renewal time, so I just prefer to stick to CloudFlare.

That being said, make sure you know what you are doing. They are a bare-bones operation so don't expect much support. That being said you likely won't need much support for just a domain.

CloudFlare does not do .ca domains for Canada, so I get all my .ca domains from https://www.canspace.ca/ who consistently have the best prices for .ca.

Same thing with .ca - sometimes you will get 1-year promotional pricing that is cheaper than canspace, but it will always increase after the first year. If you are organized enough to remember to transfer your domains before they renew, then by all means take advantage of the promotional pricing. That being said these prices almost always only apply to new registrations, so if you are looking for the best prices on your existing domains, then the two above are the best bet.

You can set up send/receive with a custom domain name for free, as long as your domain name registrar supports email forwarding (which NameSilo does, and many many other domain name registrars do as well).

There are some other guides on the internet that are a bit more comprehensive on the whole process.

I'm not seeing WHOIS privacy with Cloudflare. Also don't see .ca as option. But awesome to have options.

Namecheap actually offers email hosting at decent prices through their Private Email product. They don't even require you to use them as a registrar for the domain.

I also found Cloudflare is likely the best deal for ongoing renewal (once domain is transferred in), but found they don't allow DNS service be hosted elsewhere - ie one must use Cloudflare DNS service once domain is hosted there. I realize Cloudflare DNS is top notch, I'm just concerned about them becoming the next Google...

Comments anyone?
