NAS + NAS HDD deals?

Hey guys,

Thought I’d start a thread here...

Hoping to find a decent deal on a NAS (specifically the QNAP TVS-472xt) and NAS hard drives (Preferably 8-10TB WD Reds)

Missed out on the 8TB wd red deal recently Crying Face

Happy shopping!

Looking as well. Request a deal I guess. I have 3x4TB Reds in my Synology Ds413j and may pull 1 drive and put in 2x8TB or 2x10TB and keep 4 TB as a spare. Running out of space

Still waiting for my $199 WD 8Tb Red from Amazon ordered on BF. Noticed they moved the delivery up from Jan 31st to Dec 27th. Otherwise I would be on the lookout for another 8Tb on BD. $200 should be the target price for a WD 8Tb Red.

Any recommended guides or how-tos? I’ve been waiting for the DS218j to drop in price for a while. Just need something mostly for storage.

The DS218 is a solid unit. I use it and it's never failed me. Synology update their firmware quite regularly.

Which DS218 are you running? I was looking at specs, and DS218+ seems like a really good NAS, whereas DS218j is quite a bit slower on paper.

(I am looking for a deal on DS218+ or QNAP TS-251B)

Are the Ironwolfs better on Synology NAS cause of the monitoring features?

Is $199 for the 218J a 'hot' price? Or a regular on sale price that comes up once in a while?

Looking for a beginner unit to play with as well, and can't be bothered to DIY.

Doesn't feel like much of a discount ($40 off). Same with 218+ ($50 off)

It depends on the NAS and the type of configuration you want, so check your manual.

If you want JBOD where each drive is independent, you can probably mix and match any sizes you want.

If you want RAID-5, you can mix and match drives but each drive in the array may be restricted to the size of the smallest drive (i.e. if you have 2x4TB and 2x8TB then you will be working with 4x4TB of usable space because the two 8TB drives will be treated as 4TB drives to match the smaller ones).

Best to check the manual of the NAS you have or are interested in to see how it handles such cases.
